June cruises cancelled

Recommended Posts

not denying any of this.

One thing that makes the travel industry unique is that much of their money is received months and more before the product (trip) gets delivered.  Although I spent a lot of years in commercial lending none of it involved the travel industry so obviously I'm not the expert there but the cash flow problems must be unbelievable.

The other thing is there is a time limit on your charge back.  If the charge went through a year back, it is unlikely they will do anything.  Most people paid way in advance for cruises.  Anyway, let's hope it doesn't get to that.  But the bank is not going to eat 4-5 figure if you do charge back and cruise line refuse to pay them.  They will not be holding any bag for either you or the cruise line.

BOA is allowing the filing of disputes with temporary credits for cancelled cruises with payment made over a year ago.  I also thought the Fair Credit Act 60 day rule was in effect but on the Princess Board where everyone is disputing, I learned otherwise and they were right.  So far, I don't think anyone will come up against the 90 dispute period being fulfilled until June, since the bulk of COVID cancellation occurred after March 10.  Then we will know if card disputes work or not when the temporary credits become final.

BOA is doing the right thing here.  Kudo to them.  I think due to this pandemic, the banks seem to be bending backward to make people happy.  You see them rolling out all kind of benefits and support for customers.

Well, as per my earlier comments, I have today formally cancelled our September cruise and had the t&c’s confirmed. I am told 60 to 90 days to process the refund.

Back to the brochure....
