Cabin switch between passengers

I booked two cabins so that friends cruising with us can receive my Princess discount on their cabin. We had to book the husbands and wives in different cabins to obtain the discount on both cabins as only my wife and I are entitled to cabin discounts. How diffficult will it be for us to switch cabins once on board?  Will guest relations readily recode keys and change account payment for the two passengers that will switch cabins?

Thanks for any advice offered!

They frown on actually switching cabins because they know you are just trying to "work the system", but you could do it without telling anyone, but make sure to tell your room steward and give them a little extra cash.  They have to keep track of who's in what room for safety reasons.  You can go to the front desk area and just ask for other keys to specific rooms (ie, your wife ask for another key to her room and vise versa), I won't be connected to the medallion; I do this when I'm traveling in a different room than my kids just to make sure I always have access.

We do this when travelling with the offspring, mainly for flexibility in the event one child can’t travel.  Not an issue with guest services, just let GS know who should be in which cabin, there will only be two of the spouses moving.

OK so let me see if I understand this... Through fraud you are booking a cabin for a friend. You want steal money from Princess Cruises and once booked you want the cruise line  to be happy about this and just change the room cards around. You are not family members, as you stated "friends cruising" so not about moving family members around. You also  want to also change the ship board accounts.

Then you come here and want to involve site members in your conspiracy to defraud Princess Cruises?  You also want to break the rules of the site:

Illegal Activities

Cruise Critic prohibits the discussion of illegal activities including (but not limited to) the posting of pyramid scheme/chain letter/make money fast-type information, as well as any activity that is considered against the law,....

The Princess host should remove this whole thread.

When we bring our DS and his family with us on a cruise, we book the two cabins one in my name and one in DW's name.  That way if he cannot come the other DS could take his place.  We just go to GS and get the sea passes changed (DS and DW switch cabins). We do it soon after boarding.   We pay for both cabins of course.

You can do what you wish regarding the cabin access once on board, visit passenger services. Just make sure your cabin steward(s) are aware. Pre-cruise in the cruise personlizer you can assign the same credit card for both husband & wife, but not certain if the onboard accounts would be combined and net to a single charge (credit) or if they would be treated separately.  If separate you would have to manage OBC manually yourself between the two accounts. You would have to speak with passenger services once on board.

Princess doesn't care. When I take everyone that's a total of 3 rooms. I just get each person an extra 'key' or medallion to have access to another's room (I carry 3, they carry 2 in case they need to come into my room). The only thing with the extra medallion is that only 1 can be used for charging. All can be used for unlocking the door. This is actually quite common in families.

Added: each person can, of course, have their own onboard account linked to their primary key.

If Princess didn't mind, they would allow you to book 2 cabins, with everyone in the right place and still getting the discount. I do think this is different than a family trip where husband and wife are each booked into a separate cabin with kids, then change around once onboard. I'm sure lots of people use this scheme, but I'm not sure this public forum is the place to get tips. Sort of like questions about if it's easy to share a beverage package........

Discount???? Who get discounts on Princess cruises? Am I missing something? Casino discounts, I know about..but other discounts, just curious?

So what happens if your friends decide to cancel, after final payment? Again curious?

Rates and promo’s for Past Guest ,Resident , Seniors as well as Shareholder OBC , are just a few of the advantages of splitting up guests when booking.

No need to remove this post. I think that you are making this a bigger issue than it is. My opinion.

You could always book husband A and wife B in cabin 1 and husband B and wife A in cabin 2 and NOT switch and change things up a little bit! 😉 It’s not called the Love Boat for nothing! 😝

A few years back, I was booking a last minute cruise cruise for my wife and I and her parents who were visiting from the UK. We had gotten a special rate, but it did not apply to UK residents, so Princess themselves suggested that I book a cabin with my mother in law and my wife book a cabin with her father and then switch around when on board in order to get the special rate on both cabins. We were in the process of doing that when I gave out the Captain’s Circle numbers for all 4 passengers. My in-laws were gold as they had sailed on Princess before, when Princess said that the promo also applied to past passengers, so my in-laws were indeed entitled to the special rate on their own. That made it a lot easier. 🙂

What law is being broken?  In what jurisdiction?

In the worst possible light, some princess policy is being broken.

However, I frequently see groups (especially at the holiday) where granny pays for a large group to travel together.

Security doesn't come to each cabin to see if you are directly related to granny...

We book our cabins with one adult each, one kid each, we end up with both kids in one room and mom and dad in the other. It's no problem. It's not difficult at all to get the keys "fixed" once on board. I wouldn't call it swap. In your case, you can go to Guest Services and either get your medallions to work on the correct cabin or cruise keys.

Also, once at Guest Services, no need to go into tremendous detail. Just have all 4 of your party to go guest services to fix access to the correct cabin. 🙂

If other couple cancels after final payment.. they need to pay up! That's the 1st thing to discuss  prior to any bookings..

As well as fully refundable tickets..& or trip cancelation insurance.
