Today I received a check in the mail from Seabourn for the extra airfare I incurred when the departure port of my April 29 cruise was changed from Sydney to Auckland. Of course the cruise was later cancelled by Seabourn on March 30.

I am am still waiting for the big money for the price of he cruise.

At at least a start.

As you may recall you and I were waiting for a refund of air charges about the same time.

SB approved my claim but wanted to compensate me with FCC - it would appear that they refunded you in cash.

Did you cancel the cruise first before SB did or after they did?

Hi Paulchili,

I purchased the extra airfare and immediately filed a claim for reimbursement. This was in February when they thought they were still going to sail. The offered me the choice of a FCC or a refund.  I asked for the refund and they agreed.

The cruise itself was cancelled March 30. That is when I requested a refund for the price of the cruise. Still waiting for the big money.

This is the interesting part.

They too changed the itinerary for my cruise (3/8 - 4/7) ending in Darwin vs Bali.My air changes had to be made even before they changed the itinerary as we were flying via HKG (a no-no for SB) and I had to change those tickets while we still thought that we would sail.

When later they changed the itinerary the only offer given if we cancelled was only FCC  - no refund was offered. Later most of that cruise was also cancelled by SB.

Now they approved my air claim charges but want to rebate me with FCC (like the cruise). My point is that air change charges (like taxes, port fees, excursions) are not part of a cruise fare as such and should be compensated in cash - just like all those other items are.

The refund I received today in check form was from the Guest Relations Dept.

The cruise money comes from someplace else (not sure what department).

I agree they should have offered you a refund and not a FCC. Perhaps call the Guest Relations Dept and ask why I was offered cash and you were not.  If you need any letters from me let me know.

I have received refunds from Oceania and Celebrity, which were both cancelled on March 29 but nothing from the luxury lines Seabourn or Crystal, yet.

Tonight I received my first of 3 Oceania deposits of $1500 each.

Considering that I filed for a refund on 4/15 and got it on 5/27, that is very good.

Still waiting for refund from SB filed on 2/27. Nothing from Crystal either.

Luxury SB are you reading this? Shame on you.

Paul, sadly, I don't think SB is reading.  Just us chickens here.

Maybe that's just as well - let them stay busy with what they need to be doing.

Will have to do my talking with my wallet rather than just CC posts 🙂

Adding my experience:

Cruise departure date 7/18/20 (21 day)

Cancelled date             3/18/20 ( by us 120 days out, cruise was officially cancelled by Seabourn later, of course)

Refund of Excursions Received 5/12/20 (also received emails on these refunds several days prior)

Refund of cruise deposit 5/29/20

I count that at 73 days on the deposit, a little over 10 weeks.

I believe Seabourn is doing the best it can with the tremendous amount of cancellations and no doubt  office staffing shortages due to the virus.  I can't imagine all the logistics on crew, supplies, even fuel orders.  We are fortunate to be able to wait somewhat patiently for our refund, but we are certainly pleased and relieved to have received it.

Well, I had one credited to my Amex(s) this morning, with a processing date of 21 May. But it was the second voyage from Singapore to Dubai departing April 17, rather than the March 22. I had paid for this one in three stages, 2xFCD, then a further small deposit balance, then the final balance. The latter two were on different Amex accounts, and they came back to the correct accounts. The FCD weren't included, so presumably have gone back into my Seabourn account. But it does suggest that the refunds are being processed carefully. Why it takes so long is another matter. Zero communication from Seabourn about this, if I hadn't been checking my online Amex on a daily basis, I wouldn't have had a clue.

Anything new on your refund?  I have it that your April 17 was refunded but your March 22 was not.  Is that correct?

I am 67 days for our first cruise, and 50 days for our second (back2back cruises).

Today I received what I would call a 'holding email'.  I can copy it here.  It's basically saying .. hang on, you're in the queue, we'll get to you as soon as we can.  And that staff are doing it all by hand working from home, because the automated systems won't work in this instance.

any update?

No, unfortunately.  I am 77 days for first cruise and 61 for the next.

I did ring SB UK a few days ago.  Whilst the SB member of staff was charming, there was nothing much she could offer me, apart from to wait.  She did say that the money would be coming direct into my account as opposed to going via my TA which will save time.  She also explained how my Future Cruise Deposit I usedwill be carried over.

I was a bit disappointed when she suggested I ring again if I haven't received anything in 90 days!

As soon as I receive anything, I will post on here 🙂

Looking at the spreadsheet, it appears that those with earlier cruises are being refunded before those with later dates. This conforms to what Seabourn has said to me.

It may appear that way, But if your look, the refunds appear to be   more closely correlated to the request date than the sale date.  Here is the data for those 12 who have received refunds ( Again, beware of small sample size).

I would like to add our information to your chart

Cruise date April 8

Refund requested March 15

No refund as of May 30

Our travel agent has been working diligently as Seabourn would only speak to our TA.  We would apply for a credit card dispute but need the receipt for the refund to proceed and Seabourn will not provide.

That is correct. Still nothing on the March 22.

I, and I suspect some others, thought that there was maybe a pattern emerging whereby a batch of refunds was processed at the end of the week, and then appeared on CCs over the weekend or on the Monday. But so far this weekend that theory doesn't seem to have any legs. I note from today's marketing email from SB that they are offering a 10% discount on new AND EXISTING bookings for full payment by July 31. Uh-oh !!

JPH814. Thank you for the update.  I agree doesn’t seem to be any consistency in order of refund whether full amount, deposit, FCC or airfare/hotel compensation.
If only Seabourn would communicate,  in any form, which order they were refunding, it might help with customer’s expectations and prevent contact and credit card claims.

Good news.  As i posted I spoke to Seabourn yesterday and they said the refunds were processed on 5/27 and they hit my Amex cards today.  Only one I am waiting for is Crystal and ironically that is the largest refund!

Can you sort your spreadsheet by refund request date and show the results? Also, sort by cruise date and show those results?

Thank you.

Meanwhile, my credit card dispute has at least temporarily returned my money to my account.

Good Morning JPH:  Today we received the first amount of refund from SB.  It was $249, but sadly we have received no explanation.  We need an explanation because $249 does not relate to any of the line items in the cruise plus air fare that we need refunded for a total of $7851.66.  So we will wait to see if and when we receive more money and whether we get any accounting from SB.  Thanks for your spreadsheet efforts.
