Refund Roll Call

Glad you got the refund.  But it seems you got the refund in about 70 days - which is pretty standard based on other's results.  So going through the credit card company may or may not have made any difference

We requested the refund through Chase 10 days ago. What if we'd requested it 70 days ago?

I was notified by my credit card company this morning that SB has credited my account.  The refund included the cruise and airfare booked through SB.  The cruise planed departure date was 5-23.  I requested a refund on 4-16.  So that is 53 days since I requested a refund.  I didn't go through a travel agent or notify the credit card company.

This situation has been handled very poorly by SB.  The crux of the problem has been lack of communication.  I know it's been an unprecedented time for the industry but they should have spent a few thousand dollars and hired a crisis communications consultant.  This would have gone a long way in maintaining customer loyalty going forward.  This would have been my first cruise with SB.  Maybe time will change my mind but I'm not sure I will be doing business with this company in the future.

Thank you JPH814 for tracking all of this-- very helpful.  I regret that we did not get to meet on our planned 5-23 sailing.

I agree the communication could have been handled better.  But  from what I have read, I am not sure other cruise lines  handled things much better.  Would it affect my choice in the future? Probably not.  I will still base my decision on value and itinerary.  I have no reason to believe that the Seabourn cruise experience will be anything less than what I have experienced in the past, which I have always found to be excellent.  Would I change my choice because it took me 60 days to get a refund and I had not received more frequent updates written by some crisis communications consultant?  not likely.

But that is just my opinion....others are entitled to theirs.

I do hope to see you on a cruise sometime.  I have nothing planned at this time, but we are looking at a couple alternatives for 2021.

I have no idea.  I do not know how many of the people on this list went challenged through the credit card company.  I thinks some had.  But the quickest refund was 46 days.  (for someone who had not yet reach the final payment date) But the vast majority are 53 to 76 Calendar days.  If anyone on this list challenged through the credit card and got a refund, it does not look like it made much difference.

I am delighted that refunds are going through.  Pleased for all of you, but wonder what is going on with mine, 86 days today!

And my good friend who was on a cruise in March, was one day behind me, so she is 85 days.

Well folks, I am joining the club of the reimbursed!!!!

 But not quite whole yet...

My cruise fare was paid in three transactions from two different credit cards.  Today I received two payments - one on each card.  But one payment - oddly the final payment made in February - has not yet been credited.  I have an into my TA to have him sort it out because - technically - I pay the Agency and they pay Seabourn.  Besides, when I call Seabourn with a question, they usually say it needs to be addressed through the TA.  And my TA is a great guy and very responsive so I do not mind.

So I am going to hold off updating my data on the chart, but congrats to Wesport and - to everyone else - keep the faith!

Hi there,

Would it be possible to add another column reflecting where in the world they are located.  I was scrolling through to find out where people who have still not received a refund after  80 days and noticed that 3 or 4 of us are from Canada.

The first column shows u for USA and n for not USA.  If it is blank, the persons cruise critic profile does not say.  13 of the 61 posts are identified as non usa.  of these, 7 have gotten the refund.  10 of the 23 usa posters have received refunds

Within ~10 days (we had to provide them more info at first), Chase credited the full amount back to us.

As a temporary credit pending reply from SB (usual procedure) or as a final refund?

GREAT news, DFW and JPH814!  We were all booked on the same 5/23 cruise so fingers crossed that we see ours shortly as well.  I did dispute it with our CC in early May, got the initial deposit credited within 10 days but still waiting for the bulk of what they owe us for the cruise fare and air.

Somewhat related, we did get a refund from HAL this morning for several FCDs on one of our two CCs.

Just for the record and because no one likes an incomplete spreadsheets,  I ( we) am ( are) 'n'.

Good to see more repayments coming through, it does give one a certain sense of  relief and confidence about Seabourn's continued viability. We certainly found the idea of booking something with Seabourn next year became more appealing once we had our funds back. Unfortunately Book with Confidence does not apply to either of the two itineraries we are looking at, which makes it very difficult to commit under current circumstances (sigh...).

Wonderful news JPH!  It seems there was a burst of activity on SB refunds over the weekend and a few more folks are happy.  Thanks so much for keeping this list so we can follow the progress of refunds even if the method isn't readily apparent.  Do you think there is any link between you receiving yours and the email you forwarded to Chris Austin?  I'm not suggesting there is as I note your refund was processed in a similar time frame to others ... just wondering out loud.

Not sure. But my guess is no. Two others with the same cruise date were refunded on the same date. I think the refunds have something to do with cruise date. Maybe even with the ship.

I decided to call Seabourn after seeing the flurry of refunds.  I was told that my refund was processed on May 29th and that it usually takes 7 to 10 days for the cc company to post it to an account.  So, any day now!  Woo-Hoo!

I’ll keep you informed when I see it.....

Congratulations to all who have received their refund, sadly we are not one of them yet.

JPH814, please add “n” to my entry.

We are from Australia but booked through UK TA so don’t know if that will hinder our refund.

Thank you for all you are doing.

Good news mates! A $41,510 refund from SB appeared on my Visa card this morning. The transaction was authorized on June 4th & applied to BTB cruises scheduled for April 29th & May 16th.

I wish everybody good luck with their refunds & thank JPH814 for all the time & effort he invested in this roll call.

I'm happy to report that I received a full refund credited to my credit card for my cancelled 4/20/20 sailing.  My TA requested the refund on 3/31/20.   It looks like the refund posted to my account on 6/4/2020.  I hadn't checked the account in awhile.

Thanks JPH814 for creating and maintaining the refund roll call.  Checking this thread reminded me to check my account.

Just had a lovely chat with Christie, a Seabourn supervisor.  Several issues were reviewed:

The bulk of the money owed to us is from a cruise that was terminated a week early in Australia.  At the time, we elected a cash refund plus 50% future cruise credit versus 175% future cruise credit.  My agent has stayed on top of Seabourn and was told about a month ago that we had been approved for a refund of about $10,000. My agent called again yesterday and was told that we had elected the FUTURE CRUISE CREDIT OPTION.  Seabourn is fixing this and the supervisor promised I will be getting a refund within 2 weeks and the future cruise credit will be noted on our club accounts. The future cruise credit percentage apparently does not include taxes or commission paid to a travel agent.

The Seabourn agent who quoted the initial refund figure to my travel agent said we were being compensated for 5 days, whereas the letter given to us before we disembarked promised compensation for the 6 days we missed out of 14.  The supervisor said that we were in fact being reimbursed for 6 days but that the figure the agent quoted was totally wrong.  We were supposed to get a 43% refund; the Seabourn agent had given my agent a figure that amounted to a 67% refund until reality intruded.  We were so excited. The supervisor said these issues had been "discussed" with their agent in depth.

I asked about the reimbursement we were to be given for extra expenses related to the abrupt termination of the cruise.  The supervisor said that was handled by a different department, but she would follow up.

I asked about the refund for the two cruises I had booked that Seabourn cancelled.  The supervisor said they are working on processing refunds voyage by voyage. She said they are getting much better at processing the refunds; in the beginning, they were overwhelmed. She said I would also be getting my future cruise deposits that were applied to both bookings refunded. I decided it was better to take back the $2000 [2x2] than bet I would ever get to use them again.

Finally, the supervisor told me that people are "booking like crazy" 2021 and 2022 itineraries.

That's the story.

Linda

It’s probably too soon to post this on the spreadsheet as a true refund, but I thought I’d share the following details regarding our 6/6/20 Greek Odyssey cruise ($4150 deposit paid 8/2019 + $14750 cruise fare/FlightEase fare paid 3/8/2020)

April 14: CANCELLED BY SB

April 15: OPTION 2 full refund requested. No confirmation of our choice was sent.
May 6: called SB to ask for receipt.  The agent refused to email a receipt and told me refunds would be processed within 60 BUSINESS days.

May 18: Credit card dispute paperwork filed for full amount with Chase

May 27: Received temporary credit of $4150 deposit WITH accompanying letter from Chase explaining that this credit was temporary pending response from SB.

June 4: Called Chase to see why $14,750 final payment portion had not yet been credited, too. Was told the higher amount went to a different place for processing but was in the works. Was told to call again if we hadn’t received temporary credit for the $14750 by June 11.
June 8:  $14750 credit showed up in Chase account WITHOUT an accompanying letter from Chase saying this was a temporary credit.  The transaction date was listed as 6/4 and posted date was 6/7.
I think this might be an actual refund from SB, not as a result of our cc dispute, because of the transaction date.  The disputed $4150 deposit from last August was credited as having a transaction date of 8/5/19, posted date 5/27/20.  I think if the $14750 credit was from the credit card dispute, the transaction date would have been March 8, the date we made the final payment.

We are going to call Chase soon to ask whether the larger amount is from the dispute and deemed temporary, or if it is now ours.  Meanwhile, it appears the $4150 deposit is still going through the dispute process.

Am I allowed to feel both happy for those getting their refunds and angry that I haven’t gotten mine?!

How seabourn can process refunds for cruises in April, May,June or even later, when people are waiting for March cruises is beyond me.

but like I said I am happy for those who received their refund!!
