TUI group Cruising plan

Recommended Posts

I received an email from Staysure stating:

Staysure the insurance company that covers you for Covid 19  -  read the small print and it covers for Covid when you are away but NOT if you catch it before you go.  Not much good if you catch it a couple of days before and you aren't allowed to travel!

Think you may be right, but to be honest my feelings are that Tui would be better concentrating on cruises from UK ports, no way will we be flying anywhere in the forceable future but could consider a cruise, in a bubble, from the UK. Just a thought. 🙄

Yes, we agree. The boss has said that no way are we going on a plane for at least the next year,  so it is only cruises departing from the UK  for us.

Well with another cruise company pushing start date back till 31st August, who knows what Marella will do?

With the changes to furlough from this Wednesday (Tui/Marella will have to start deciding what to do with there staff).

Any guesses. Given quarantine on return, more ex UK. Still don't see how Corfu airport works. Also Edinburgh airport is listed on European safe list but Glasgow isn't

Similar on the medication side,I also have an excess but not nearly as high as yours P.......

At the moment

I also have Nationwide flexa/c insurance, and my understanding is that if you have to pay an additional sum for medical cover or anything (including age) then that element of the cover is treated as renewed each year. So if your renewal falls before your cruise, you may not be covered for Covid 19. It is worth checking.

Handy to have the NHS available as well. A scenic cruise to Norway is attractive 2. I see Saga have their new ship offering 7 nighters from Dover next year. Car transfers included. Six hundred passengers and 100 solo cabins, all cabins with balconies. cost a small fortune though.

Who told you the new Saga ships take 600 passengers? they each take 999 passengers at full capacity.

My friend and I are booked on our first ever cruise next may and are so looking forward to it.

We have a week in Corfu following the week long cruise and a holiday with social distancing seems like a 2 week holiday in my back garden would be just as much fun and alot cheaper

I want to socialise, eat, drink and boogie into the night with other people, not just around my handbag.

I can't see formal night being much fun, spending all that money on a slinky gown and shoes just to accesorise with a clashing face mask 😷 and latex gloves

I am not really that shallow or selfish,  peoples health and safety, wether crew or passengers are paramount but there must be some truth to what I have said previously to all of us.

We are hoping that things may have calmed down a little more by the time we go, but I guess thats little consulation to the people that have missed out on thier cruises this year and I do feel for them.

I will go anyways, social distancing or not, but I would rather it wasn't my first experience of cruising, I don't want to end the holiday thinking that cruising isn't all that great after all.

Keep safe everyone and look after your loved ones and neighbours.

Nobody told me I surmised that they would be at reduced capacity like other cruise lines. anyway a moot point as I don't really fancy going back to formal nights. no need to make a final decision until the 'new normal' cruising has been going for a while.

Ah - sorry about that.

Saga as yet have not made any announcements about how they are planning to run future cruises. They are still taking bookings for September onwards, probably in the hope that people will roll the booking over if(when?) the cruise is cancelled. As yet, nobody knows when the 2nd of their ships will be in service, we al know it has been delayed from the factory, but whether this year, next year - nobody knows.

As you say, it is all moot anyway - we don't want to cruise until we find out how things work, and the cruise lines themselves are making guesses about what they have to do, what they can do, and when they can do it.

To top all this off I got a letter from my Natwest Travel insurance yesterday (part of the bank account) It is due for renewal in july and could I please phone them. Ok, phoned message said extremely busy and try again another day. I suspect I know what is going on. The bank account is no longer available for new users. Now my main reason for having the account is for the travel insurance, specifically cruising. I am in town next week so will pop into my branch. There are reports that some insurers are no longer offering cruise insurance or the premiums are rocketing. I have a mind to change to a basic account with no 'perks' and forget about foreign travel for a year or two. I only want to do one cruise a year!.

edit - on top of all this my BT internet has been playing up for the last couple of days. Up until 6 months ago I had terrible problems but BT where no help. Then a friend said it is their cr**py equipment and try a new modem/router. I bought an Asus, the connection has been rock solid since, up until 2 days ago . the router system log says the BT server won't reply. 🤬

Hi nosapphire

Yeah was intending to ask the question just never got round to it but will  on renewal date if not before.

If you have no medical issues your covered but if not your not.My medical condition would not put me at any more risk than someone who has no medical conditions. Its an interesting one

If you have a land line - then check to see if there is any noise on the line, especially intermittent noise. If there is then report it as a line fault (do not, repeat do not mention your network problems when you report the fault).

I had already gone through all those stages which is why I bought an alternative router/model, works like a charm, rock solid until this week. One small lockout for 10 mins yesterday.

I could drop the whole land line thing, I have friends who exclusively use 4G for everything and I have line of sight to our local phone mast, as I only use the phone about twice a week so why bother paying for it.

Saw a post on here and I then phoned Marella (12mins) and was told it was going ahead, checked Marella website and it said cancelled, so I phoned Marella again (12mins) and girl said yes it has been cancelled and they would be in touch for deposit refund

As someone who has bookings with Saga, just be aware that Saga are no better at keeping their customers informed than Marella, and seem to be very willing to mislead by omission potential customers (such as taking bookings for a cruise in September on a ship that will not leave the factory until the end of October...).

Having considered the options I opted for a 7 nighter to Norway next May on P&O Iona. A double balcony cabin for single occupancy for over a thousand less than the Saga equivalent. No formality and suits my 'grazing' food preferences. The deposit was less than £100 as well so if i decide not to go there is not much loss.

Just waiting on them pushing bsvk again. We are due ex corfu on explorer 2/10, but if they don't think ex palma works, then you have to think ex corfu airport is impossible. Also now see you can amend all bookings up too 31/10
