We get 3 drinks a nite on our card now to use at bars during happy hour. 5:30-8:00 so bye bye for that. I think they will be for a while in the beginning. When there is herd immunity or a vaccine I they will return. I also tend to think they will limit numbers in the SL/CK.

Silent ordering or just point? Let's hope chewing is okay! Edited May 16, 2020 by hcat
BillyBouy Posted May 16, 2020 #203 Share Posted May 16, 2020 This is a thoroughly entertaining thread for sure, read the WHOLE thing. Folks posting about how they don't like buffets. I'd expect they don't go to the buffet anyway. Yup, lot of chance of cross-contamination in a buffet. And on every handrail, every wall, every chair, every elevator, basically, every hard surface on the ship. Narrow corridors, I could go on and on. Casinos? Social distancing problem, shut 'em down. The main theater? same, shut it down. The Pool? Same, shut it down. Just sit in your cabin and eat MREs, lol! I'm sure the occupancy on the ships, especially the newer ones, are built around moving large amounts of folks through the buffets. Close down the buffet, no way the MDR's are capable of handling the massive increase of guests (keeping social distancing in mind), there just ain't enough square feet. Just my observations and opinion.

People are so focused on the buffet while there are MANY other places in which a virus could spread.

What is all the talking in the MDR going to do as people order food then sit around making small talk with strangers while waiting for, and then eating, that food? Are those droplets going to be landing all over the table and other people's food? This is getting to be ridiculous. I have been eating in buffets for years and never become ill. I guess everyone better start eating in their cabins or maybe just stay home.

They will reset the weight limit so the alarm goes off after 2 adults enter. People will be lined up, appropriately socially distanced, all the way down the passageways waiting to board. 1
zekekelso Posted May 17, 2020 #210 Share Posted May 17, 2020 I'm not so sure the buffet is a cesspool of germs. But the lines will need to say they've made changes, and closing the buffets sounds good.
luckyinpa Posted May 17, 2020 #211 Share Posted May 17, 2020 probly said before but whats the point of 'perfect sanitation' in the buffet if its not everywhere. im not a pool person specifically because you are shoulder to shoulder with people. its that way on every single ship unless you are on a canada cruise in october lol. in the theater, how many seats do you lose if people are 6 ft away. are they gonna wipe down every seat and door handle when someone touches it? imagine guest services lines and everyone at the counter. imagine the lines to get OFF the ship ever port and at home port. zero point of making the buffet safe unless every other thing is safe too. people dont respect their times/colors etc to get off now. is that really gonna change. no way. things like thermal spas etc are gonna have to be shut down. they are already small places. water slides...go carts, roller coasters, etc. even mini golf and the clubs. imagine how miserable it would be if they really did the protocols on all that stuff, i dont even think its possible.

It depends again upon the timing. We will utilize the space, we will utilize the Windjammer, but in all probability it won't be a classical buffet. It will be something more akin to a restaurant." Casinos and bars will likely be the last to open on land and those two areas provide lots of onboard revenue for the cruise line. Should be interesting how they do it. If the odds of getting Covid are roughly the same as the odds on the slot machines, casinos may be a safe bet. I see a lot of remote gambling apps in our future, and that just isn't the same. Just saying...😁

FiftyOnePlus Posted May 17, 2020 #218 Share Posted May 17, 2020 If they take Buffets off cruise ships, then I wont be going. Buffets do not need to be removed. Those who dont like them, dont go to them. Buffets were fine before Covid 19 came along....and now all of a sudden they are being blamed for it? Nope.

Everything I had seen early on were all short cruises that did not seem to offer me the value that I seek from the various mass market lines. Rare badvector Posted May 17, 2020 #223 Share Posted May 17, 2020 There's been a lot of talk here but in my opinion nobody has really captured the biggest loss in all of this. BACON. You heard me, good old grease dripping, mouth watering, B A C O N. Sure I can get it at the MDR or via room service; but what are we talking about? Maybe 4 strips? Come on man, really? My poor waiter would lose 10 pounds making trips back to the kitchen for refills. Nothing screams enjoyment on a cruise like sitting at a table just outside the WJ with the warm sea breeze blowing through your hair and a plate stacked full of crispy, smoky pork deliciousness. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go take my cholesterol medication and check my blood pressure. 5

(Now if we want to mitigate norovirus on ships, then yeah, the buffet needs to go.)
