mlbcruiser Posted May 15, 2020 #1 Share Posted May 15, 2020 Do you use a cane with a drop down seat or do you know anyone who does? I am looking for a recommendation for a brand/type of cane that has a seat that could work for a taller person. My husband has a mobility issue and while he uses a folding traveler scooter, there are places on a ship where he prefers to walk, such as inside a casino or along a buffet line and elsewhere. A year and a half before getting the scooter, I brought home a cane with a very small seat that flipped down. Ended up taking it back because the seat was really tiny and also very low to the ground. I had gotten the idea because we were on a ship the year before and met someone that had a cane with a seat. I’m certain it was larger than the one I found in a local store that sold accessibility equipment. DH is 6‘3“ tall and weighs about 185. Thanks for any recommendations. Algebralovr Posted May 16, 2020 #3 Share Posted May 16, 2020 (edited) The only one I could find has a fairly small seat, but works for me for limited use. I’m 5’9” and 190 lbs. I has three legs and folds flat. I got mine from amazon for about $25. Edited May 16, 2020 by Algebralovr
PoofCat99 Posted May 18, 2020 #4 Share Posted May 18, 2020 I have a flipstick, but don't recommend it if you are unable to balance/support yourself with your legs.
Orlando Vic Posted October 11, 2020 #5 Share Posted October 11, 2020 Have you considered a rollator? This is what I have https://www.amazon.com/Rollator-lightweight-aluminum-backrest-capacity/dp/B006W7049M/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2or8BRCNARIsAC_ppybb1x1-VrwT6mkHtCe0uZrwT4iwLksJAm9PRnQ-Q_v_2BGzaPKJr8kaAj66EALw_wcB&hvadid=153689033186&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9011747&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=14104338574124381384&hvtargid=kwd-47418383471&hydadcr=21877_9350711&keywords=healthsmart+rollator&qid=1602442731&sr=8-3&tag=googhydr-20
Dunchues Posted March 8, 2023 #6 Share Posted March 8, 2023 I bought mine from Amazon especially for a cruise, there's a lot of choice depending on weight, color preference etc. around 50 or 60$. I am fairly short and heavy and pretty broad in the beam too, a full size unit. The thing was a lifesaver. I can't imagine how I'd have got on without it tbh, I am elated with it. dahlie Posted March 30, 2023 #7 Share Posted March 30, 2023 I feel very vulnerable using the three legged stool/walking stick.. the seating is flimsy and not suited to my height (5ft 10). so I bought a collapsible stool which is carried like a shoulder bag. It's lightweight, strong and fast to deploy.
mlbcruiser Posted March 30, 2023 Author #8 Share Posted March 30, 2023 Interesting aid. When I bought my husband a cane with three legs and a stool, I tried it. it felt very unwieldy. Months later I saw something on the Internet and learned we were sitting on it wrong! You’re supposed to put the shaft/handle in between your legs from the front, and then sit on it. Still, he hasn’t ever used it. I imagine one day it may come in handy for something. Good luck with this new seat. Looks easy to tote around. Hopefully you will report back after you use it because I’m sure many others might want to get one if it works well for you.
Milashka Posted March 30, 2023 #9 Share Posted March 30, 2023 I had a cane with a seat. As I lean on the cane, the 3-legged thing provided very little support, so I would've needed a regular cane plus a seat. I got rid of it.

It feels odd but that's the way to use it and you get used to it very fast. I also felt it was a weird idea at first ( before I gave it a chance) and bought the 4 leg variety of the same thing. But I found I couldn't use it as a cane as it didn't feel right and oddly enough even with 4 legs felt unstable to me. Looks nice a shiny but that one will stay in the loft !
