Getting around Nassau (for the first-time nervous)?

Just thinking ahead for '21, if/when things have calmed down for a Feb. cruise:

Only had one cruise to Nassau before, and was so hammered by longtime cruisers "horror stories" of what a "dump" the city was, I was a little hesitant to go further in--I was traveling in a wheelchair, and was curious about Atlantis, but didn't want to trust the onslaught of pier taxi drivers drumming up business (not sure of which were genuine and which might be scamming), so I just wheeled around the colorful tourist Bay St. shops for that first glimpse of the city.

Now I'm feeling a little more adventurous, and might TRY to make it out to Atlantis to see it up close...Any advice?
Last time, a few would-be drivers saw me in the chair and said "It's okay, I have a van!", but I wasn't sure (I have a lot of trouble getting out of it).  With an early start, would I have a reasonably good travel option for finding my way out to Atlantis' other side of the bay, and back again by 3pm?
