If I cancel my  cruise due to C0vid 19 before the cruise company cancels me, can I have my deposit refunded?

Welcome to Cruise Critic!

It would help if you mentioned the cruise line in question, when the cruise is to take place and did you book direct or through a travel agent? (Note that Cruise Critic does not allow the naming of travel agents!)  However, be aware that most posters on this board are North American, where the rules regarding deposits, payments and refunds are completely different to the UK and Europe.

If you go to the CC Boards main page you will find a listing for the various cruise lines and that is where you should post your cruise line specific question.

Your question may already be answered in the cruise lines dedicated threads.

However in general, if YOU cancel it is more difficult to get a refund than if the cruise line cancels.

The answer is ‘it depends’

 

on if you booked with a non refundable deposit

 

on it you are before or after the date when cancellation penalties kick in

 

on what cruise line and rate type you booked

And also be aware that even if you qualify to get your deposit back, it will take a LONG time.

I wouldn’t hold my breath!   Depends which cruise line but in UK different T&Cs from America. 

 

Often need to pay an admin fee even to transfer to different cruise in normal times.

 

Speak to agent or cruise line..maybe different in these difficult times.

 

We are still waiting for refund, 12 weeks after cruise line cancelled our cruise!
