Lift and Shift - any exceptions?

Surprised I was only on hold a minute or two. There were no equivalent itineraries for our 11 night September Equinox cruise and Celebrity would not lift and shift to any different 11 night itineraries at a different time frame. They were really pushing the 125% credit for another 11 night we wanted in January or February but that would cost us thousands more out of pocket as prices doubled and tripled from what we originally paid. Also, if we took the FCC and Celebrity then cancels the cruise booked with FCC, we would be unable to get a refund. We asked for a refund now and will wait to see if prices drop. We will also consider other cruise lines.

One important question please. If you booked your cruise with a TA can only the TA call the cruise line to L & S or can you call to set it up.

Thanks ....'

I use a TA and he appears to have used the same request tool that is available on the web site.  When I entered my booking number it showed me the eligible sailings I could L&S to.  I think you could submit the request yourself but will still need the TA to respond to you with the new invoice etc.

It's never a bad approach to get your money refunded.

Here is our situation....we are currently booked on the Best of Japan 14 day sailing for march 28, 2021 in a 2C on Millennium, in a Sweet 16 cabin. It is somewhat possible that this sailing will take place, but we are 99% apprehensive, and have resigned ourselves to not sailing then, as we were going to tack on a Singapore and Cambodia side trip as well. I looked into the Lift and Shift and in March of 2022, Celebrity is doing the Best of Japan for 14 days on the Solstice. For those familiar with the cabin class differences between Millennium class and Solstice class, 2C's on Millennium are very acceptable cabins...the 2C's (and 2D's) are either partially obstructed or obstructed. I am absolutely not going to look out at the top of a lifeboat or the davit lift apparatus for 14 days from my balcony! I had heard on other threads of people being able to pay the difference in cabin category to move, which to move up to an unobstructed 2B or 2A, the difference is approximately $100 to 140 per person. My current rate, which was booked in Oct of 2018, including 4 perks, is about $1000 less than prevailing rates right now. Here was Celebrity's chat response this morning to my inquiry about "moving up".

Ashley

You are not able to request a stateroom. Once you select lift and shift, We will try and give you the same room in the same category.

If it is not available, we will go ahead and assign any room in the same stateroom category

After it has been assigned, you can call in to change your room number. If you change the category, it will be prevailing rates and promotions.

In this case, I would suggest waiting for the Lift and Shift to be assigned and then reaching out to your TA to see if you can have the same promotion and just pay to have an unobstructed view.

I do apologize, Art

Art

So, if I fill out the form, and I don't like what you assign, or any of the same cabin options, can I decline the lift and shift offer?

Do I have to confirm acceptance or anything before you cancel me off of my current booking?

Ashley

If this is a Global Suspension sailing, you can opt to do the full refund if you decline the offer

Once you fill out the Lift and Shift form, the lift and shift will take place

The "prevailing promotions" is crazy to me. My TA has often changed my cabin category and while yes, the price is at the prevailing rates (one place where Disney is awesome is you are locked into the  prices the day you book, so if you upgrade your category later, you'll pay whatever the rate was for that on the day you booked it rather than the probably higher price (since Disney doesn't really go down until just before sailing if then) it would be), my promotions have always stayed the same.

I have tried to L & S my 10 days on Reflection to 12 days on Equinox next year - got  NO even I told up front that I am willing to pay for extra 2 days. When I mentioned that some people on CC have got it changed, the woman I was dealing with said something interesting....."if you can get me these people booking #  - I can go to the whatever department is doing changes and will ask to honor your request", otherwise they will not do it. I guess it can be done with multi chain people phone calls. I didn't feel to waste my time on this matter. We will be moving to a cruise on the M  ship - not my first choice.

So, a follow up to my story.... my TA actually found a rate on the cruise that we wanted to L&S to in a 2 categories up cabin, for $700 less, with all our perks except the WIFI, which we can pay for with our savings, without having to go through the L&S process. Simple....

Not sure why you have directed your advice to me.  Since  you have chosen to do so, please share the names of the cruiselines who are performing admirably during this crisis for those considering another.
As far as the whining, feel free to scroll on to a thread that doesn’t annoy you.

We were booked on the 11 Night Southern Caribbean September 14, 2020 from Ft Lauderdale ---- no 11 night cruises next year that we could lift and shift to (only 12 night cruises) - we waited until that cruise was cancelled - and received 125% FCC - which totally covered our 12 night Caribbean cruise in 2021 - with a little bit left over - turned out to be a good deal !   😀

Third time is the charm. I called my TA to cancel my October cruise since there wasn’t an equivalent cruise next year. This time he got my 11 day moved to a 12 day with no added dollars for the extra day. We are happy since we had quite a bit of onboard credit and 4 perks that we were able to keep.

@sn2792 sorry to to ask for this but, I'm trying to do a lift and shift similar to yours, and my travel agent is saying if I can help him provide proof such as a confirmation number of another guest who has gone from 11 day to 12 day with similar itinerary he could help me out with my reservation (saying celebrity is making more expectations now). If you are willing to provide a booking number I would appreciate it. I understand if not.

Thanks

You should provide an email address so they could contact you privately.  Nobody should post their booking number here.

Called Blue Chip yesterday to lift and shift an 11 day Feb.2021.  Could not move it to 2022.  Did move it to a 9 day on Oct.2021.  It met our needs so we could book a free cruise with Princess in Feb.  Yes we went to less days but it was a comped cruise anyway.  Just wandered if anyone has been moved to 2022 through the casino.

We were booked on a January 17, 2021 12 night Southern Caribbean cruise on Equinox. If that does go the itinerary will probably not look at all like the initial offering. Contacted our TA yesterday for a "lift-and-shift" to January 9, 2022 cruise with same ship and itinerary. We were Aqua Class with three perks and even though the 2022 price is three thousand dollars more for the same category, we were given the switch at no additional cost. Our new cabin is right next door. Very pleased with how that turned out.

There are a few posts here stating that Celebrity has made individual exceptions to their current published policy regarding the number of cruise days required for a Lift and Shift match. Is this really true, hearsay or just wishful thinking?

Can anyone confirm that they actually had this happen to them for a specific Celebrity cruise?

My particular situation is a direct booked 17 day cruise in Sept 2020 from Hawaii to Australia on Solstice. They only similiar itinerary cruise in 2021 or 2022 is 18 days.  I was told verbally by Celebrity phone reps that Lift and Shift would not apply because of the one extra day.  😩

I really want to take advantage of the Lift and Shift program but I need some evidence to challenge this with Celebrity.

I know I could wait them out until they eventually cancel the 2020 Sept cruise (highly likely) and have 125% FCC but that might not happen until after 30 June when my large final payment is due. In that case I would have given them more $$ then I am willing to put at risk.

Any reply?

First, I tried to lift/shift to either of two itineraries that were almost but not exactly the same as the cancelled cruise. No go.

But second, note that you get 125% FCC of what you have paid, NOT 125% of the cruise fare (unless of course you made final payment.) The way it has been working out, cancellations have been happening after final payment, but still something to keep in mind. One of my August cruises was cancelled before I made Final, so the 125% didn’t amount to much.

Did you book direct with Celebrity? I tried to lift and switch my 10 day cruise on the Reflection from November 13, 2020 to the Millennium on November 29, 2021 and they told my TA they couldn’t do it. My TA even talked to a supervisor. We got a great deal on an OV cabin including all four perks to the S. Caribbean and the switch was the E. Caribbean so it shouldn’t matter. Yes, the new cruise is double the price, but I thought that was the purpose of lift & shift so you keep the same price and perks. The Millennium isn’t even as nice a ship as the Reflection (I’ve been on both). Not happy with Celebrity right now...I didn’t have any trouble switching my RC cruise.

According to Celebrity's "Lift & Shift Checker" (a tool made for travel agents), your sailing should indeed be eligible for L&S to the November 29, 2021 sailing:

Since it does look like your desired cruise is on the accepted list you should be able to do the Lift & Shift even without your TA.  Just go to this site, put in your booking details and you should be presented with the above list.  Select the cruise you want as your first choice and hit submit.   You don't get to select a cabin so you probably want to make sure that there are cabins available in your category before you submit by making a mock booking.   Once the L&S is done your TA could request a different available cabin within the category.

One issue with going from "S" class ship to "M" class ship is that there are some categories that are not available on both classes.  For example category 1A, 1B, 1C will be assigned a category 2x cabin.  I found this out the hard way.   Many are also reporting that if you are booked in a FV cabin they won't do that because most have been re categorized as Sunset Suites.

If the category in which you are booked on Reflection is available on Millie then it should be a no brainer.  Let us know how you make out.

Yes, those are the dates I was originally told I could lift & shift my Nov. 13, 20 cruise to, but when my TA called Celebrity they said I had a fare code of CUG (whatever that means) and even a supervisor wouldn't approve the switch.  I know I got an awesome rate for my 10 day cruise on the Reflection with all four perks in an OV room, but they won't L & S. I'm willing to go from the Reflection to the Millennium (which is not as nice a ship) and it doesn't matter.

The combination of a special fare code and a very good price could indicate you are booked in a group rate? Celebrity Unnamed Group, perhaps? I haven't written the FAQs on L&S regarding group rates, but they may not be eligible for L&S.
