CRUISE COVID TESTING

Recommended Posts

Going on a cruise, with zero control, and zero checks, is the same as walking across an interstate blindfolded, with all the cars lights being switched off at midnight.

At least if there is traffic signals, headlights on, and not being blindfolded, you stand a reasonable chance of surviving (i.e. not catching Covid)

Not even close to being a reasonable analogy.

According to information released by the CDC  the virus has a death rate possibly as low as .26%.

Your analogy only makes sense if your imaginary interstate is I35 just outside of Williams Iowa

One more thing for insurance companies to be licking their chops over with new sources of profit as people attempt to insure them selves for every possible loss they can think of.

I see that you are a big fan of insurance companies.  😉

If someone tested positive at a port or on a sea day, it wouldn't be "cruising life as normal".  Unless they have a yet unknown way to deal with that, everyone would be marched to their rooms and locked in until they found somewhere to dock and unload everyone.

No issue with the companies. They are doing what they are in busness for, to make money. I just find it odd that some people are so adverse to any type of risk that they insure for any type loss.

Interesting...results of this study show asymptomatic  carriers ability to infect others may be weak.  This zombie theory may well soon go the way of the killer surfaces threat.

Conclusion: In summary, all the 455 contacts were excluded from SARS-CoV-2 infection and we conclude that the infectivity of some asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 carriers might be weak.

Interesting findings.  I wonder if there are any more studies going on about this same topic.

Who is going to pay for the testing every day?

Are they going to build a lab on every ship?

The new Amplification will include converting Coastal  Kitchen into Covid Cultures. They will introduce "The Swab" which is a prepaid service in the cruise planner that will allow you to pre purchase a plan for Covid Testing through your health insurance company. The passenger will be responsible for any out of pocket that the insurance does not cover.

Im sure there must be. The ability of asymptomatic carriers to transit the disease is a very big part of the paralyzing fear. They have pretty much eliminated the fear of surface transmission...if there are no asymptomatic zombies infecting us unknowingly...then avoiding infection from SYMPTOMATIC carriers becomes must easier...and less frightening.

There is no way they can test every single person every day.  It is not physically or financially possible. Plus there would be many people who would oppose being tested as it would violate their rights, just like there are many people now refusing to wear masks as it violates their rights.

OP, you said “surely” three times in two sentences.  Surely that is indicative that surely nobody knows if any cruise line can surely safeguard every cruiser from what will almost surely be another outbreak aboard surely at least several ships.

I win.

now let’s get to the important part; speculation about drink packages.

Shirley you jest  😁

I wonder if any pharma/tech inventors are developing an implantable nasal virus-detection chip that would be scannable like an RFID. Could eventually be made to transmit a signal as soon as a virus is detected in the nasal membranes.

While writing this, I flashed back to Arnold removing the big red tracker ball in Total Recall. Miniaturization would need to be better!

😁😁  Funny.

What's also funny is that there are people here so addicted to the "cruising lifestyle", they would sign up for that today.

Has anyone heard about any Cruise line, especially Royal, re the controls they are looking at putting in place when they start cruising again.?

I'm a seasoned cruiser, but surely, if their plan is to control entry to the ships via the stupid questionnaire sheet of "have you had coronavirus in the last 14 days" type approach, surely this will enable the virus to spread again like wildfire on a cruise ship.

Surely they are putting plans in place to test everyone before getting on the ship, and then testing when people come back on at ports.....even to the point of testing everyone, even every day.....That way, the "cruising life" will be as normal.........

I can't find anything, I have looked and looked........they are talking about "social distancing", which we all know is impossible on a cruise ship.....is the plan to wait for the elevator for the whole cruise then.!....

Anyone with ANY REAL info.....??

I think you are done cruising then. Theres no way testing is going to be done. You can become positive 3 days after being exposed. So normal cruising wont be normal. Imaging 4000 people needing a test when returning to the ship at a port? Unless there is a vaccine which could never happen herd immunity will be what needs to happen. There is risk in everything. Lets test for tuberculosis as well at every port. Lmao

Exactly right! The covid-terrified can stay home, the rest of us are getting on with our lives.

Exactly, live your life or barricade yourself in your house. Vaccine may never ever happen.

And I believe we would be there now, if we would have locked down only the vulnerable two months ago.  Instead we locked everybody down and have a ways to go for herd immunity (while killing the economy).  Now that the country is opening back up, it will help us get closer to herd immunity but maybe not much if the virus doesn't transmit as easily in the summer.  I guess we will see.

I am doing my part in getting back out.  I also will refuse to wear a mask anywhere that isn't required and the only time I will go somewhere that a mask is required is on an airplane to get me somewhere that it isn't.  Hopefully, the airlines lift the mask requirement soon, but until they do I will find the lightest mask possible and take it off frequently to takes drinks & try to keep my flights all under 2 hours.

And if you do leave your house don't expect those you encounter to indulge your fears.

Let's see.  Medicare is paying $100 per COVID test.

So for 2 person room, that adds $200 per day for cruising.

Yeap, that will work.........

Great point.

I wonder if the cruise line’s will prohibit self pays (uninsured) onboard?   I’m sure there are a bunch under 65 in this situation.

Medicare does not cover anything outside of the U.S. or its territories. Typical suppliments only pick up co-pays and deductibles but not anything denied by medicare. So you might as well consider the over 65 folks as self pays also.

I hope when you are "getting on with your life" you are practicing social distancing or wearing a mask if you can't.

I don't consider myself " Covid terrified" but I am cognizant of the potential danger that it can cause. I am "Covid aware"

It’s one thing to say...you should wear a mask FOR ME...if it’s in a grocery store or doctors office, etc. These are essential places. But wearing a mask on a cruise ship where no one NEEDS to be...that is a whole other conversation.

This doesn't make sense.  We all need to wear masks ANYWHERE there are other people in a confine space.  Period.

As far as testing is concerned, cruise lines should require proof of a negative test within 3-5 days before sailing, and a signed document at boarding that the passenger has been social distancing and wearing a mask since receiving the results.  Of course people will lie, and therefore cruise lines should require masks on board until a vaccine is available.

THEN, they should require written proof that the passenger has been vaccinated.

My husband and I just got tested last Friday.  It is now Monday, Memorial Day, and our negative test results were emailed to us this morning.  The test was free with Project Baseline.

(Oh, anyone planning on getting the test, here's a hint:  when the swab comes at you, breathe in once, hold your breath and be still while the swab goes up.  This eliminates almost all the stinging effect.)
