Banning smoking would also severely cut into profits for an industry that has lost a ton of money over the past 2 months.

Gambling (slots in particular) + drinking + smoking all go hand in hand at a casino

whether you’re a smoker or not, arguing that point is silly if you’ve ever been in a casino

I'm not so much concerned about banning smoking.  The point that I was trying to make is that I would like to see masks mandatory for the Nevada casinos in the near term until this pandemic clearly winds down.  The problem is that you can't mandate wearing masks without banning smoking at the same time.   Otherwise, the smokers will just pull their mask down to their neck and puff away.

According to the WHO, the virus can live on plastic and stainless steel for up to 3 days. Isn't that what slot machines are made from?

The most important thing to know about coronavirus on surfaces is that they can easily be cleaned with common household disinfectants that will kill the virus. Studies have shown that the COVID-19 virus can survive for up to 72 hours on plastic and stainless steel, less than 4 hours on copper and less than 24 hours on cardboard."

While that was & is still true that statement came out very early. The CDC now says the chance of infection from a surface is so small it’s irrelevant. Not to mention no one has gotten the virus from a surface

How in the world would they know that nobody has gotten the virus from a surface?

There has been no confirmed case of a person getting it from a surface. That’s from the CDC

Serious question? How would they know. The virus has entered the body of millions of people...is there some marker that shows how it was contracted?

And that's exactly why it's so important for "everybody" to wear a mask in a closed, crowded environment such as a casino.  They can wipe down the machines, sanitize surfaces all that they want.  But if this is primarily spread through droplets, then all it takes is one selfish person, who doesn't even know that they're infected, to spread it to hundreds in the matter of a few hours.

But that is the point. Smokers will still gamble just like they still went to bars and drank and the net effect was an overall increase in business. If I owned a Casino and the rule was that Casino's would not allow smoking then I would be very confident my business would increase.

Not true. I live 15-20 minutes from a non smoking casino that I do not go to. I would rather drive 2.5 hours and go to a casino I can smoke in.
Same thing with restaurants, if they do not have an outdoor deck I can smoke on, I do not go there either.

Don't make blanket assumptions due to your own bias as people who assume............

No smoking across Europe did no see mass cassino closures, life goes on and people adapt.

It really is time the US caught up and banned smoking in all internal public spaces.

They were constantly cleaning in the casino wiping down machines, chairs, cards, chips and surfaces.  They also had out extra hand sanitizers.

I think it would be much easier if every player would simply wear disposable gloves.Once they finish playing they throw them in extra garbage boxes and leave the casino. Then there would be much less need to sanitize everything so ectremely.

again my post was not meant for the 800th smoking debate. It was more an economical comment.

whether you agree or disagree about smoking in casinos. Whether or not you have casinos by you that ban or allow smoking. Not the point.

In March when these casinos closed....a large % of their clientele were smoking gamblers. For the last 2 months they have generated $0 income. For them to now reopen and tell that large population of people who were visiting their casinos and generating revenue for them...Sorry were open but you’re not welcome....is not a good financial decision.

it might be a wise health decision. And it might be a mandated CDC decision. But financially, if you’re trying to recoup money you’ve lost you want to welcome as many people as possible with open arms.

I could be argued now is the perfect time and that the smokers who are desperate to return may be more accomodating.

Ugh.  My local casino is smoke free.  I deal with smoking on ships because I don't have a choice (except for the Bliss...which had an enclosed smokers area).  But, I certainly don't want a smoker during a pre-vaccine cruise environment.  Each exhale may have millions of virus particles from an asymptomatic person.

Just another reason to wait...

My new motto: The more I read cruise critic, the less I want to cruise 😞

To the OP....at this point you'll just have to wait for reviews to find out what's happening in the casino.  All posts on the thread are opinions.

Yes, that's a thought and certainly one level of protection.  The problem becomes that if someone infectious wearing gloves touches their face or coughs into their gloves, the gloves can now carry the virus to someone who then touches their face with their gloves.  If we think of all the contamination possibilities we'd probably never leave our homes.  I guess we just have to take whatever precautions we can and hope for the best.  It'll be interesting to see what changes there will be moving forward and how we will all deal with it.

As would the exhale from a non-smoker so irrelevant in terms of smoke v. non-smoke. There has been some speculation that smokers are actually less likely to contract COVID-19 (not proven though).

Sorry, I wasn't clear but I'm not getting into a debate about the merits of smoking.

A non-smoker just breathes (except for coughing and sneezing).

A smoker blows out the cigarette smoke in a vigorous manner...into the air....with the gusto of a person talking very loud.

As reference for discussion & debate - here is one set of gaming/casino rules posted for the public, approved for use for their partial/limited opening as part of the state's phase 1 recovery in CT (here in the Northeast) -  full set of detail rules is linked.

No indoor smoking, mask is mandatory except when eating & smoking, and limited dining options for takeout, along with enhanced sanitation/cleaning protocols and social distancing, etc.

Some folks will NOT be happy, let's be clear while others will be satisfied (for now, at least) and live with them ... LOL.  More popcorns (let's just to have a civilized discussion, agree to disagree.)  Be well, safe & healthy !

Link to 2nd gaming resort-casino's published info @ Foxwood - also a home away from home to some of the CAS players.  Using thermal cameras to do temperature check of guests & "team members" - not foolproof but peace of mind.

We have been told so many different stories about how this virus can be spread that it is insane!!! I truly feel there have been way too many scare tactics told without proof although, people are still getting this virus. That leads me to believe that it is from coughing, talking, sneezing, or just breathing. I also feel that if you use common sense on a cruise ship, you should be fine. If I go to the casino, I will wear a mask. That is my choice due to a low renal function but I wouldn't expect everyone around me to cater to me. Just be courteous of each other and Have Fun.. We can all take care of each other and make sure another outbreak doesn't happen on a ship..

I won't feel like we're back to normal until people are asking if you can bring water on the ship

I am not making blanket assumptions I am giving you a real world example where revenues went up because non-smokers started returning to bars and restaurants. Everyone had to comply so there wasn't an alternative. If you had a choice between not gambling or gambling while not smoking which would you do?
