According to the new VP of Casino operations who has a NASCAR back ground , they will be using the tear away clear sheets like NASCAR cars use and will tear it off after each guest leaves a machine.  All machines will be converted to touch screen buttons only.

Mohegan Sun is gonna have 3 people at blackjack table. Dealer behind plexiglass. But what about craps I think they said new dice for every shooter. Masks & gloves for dealers. I’m going to Mohegans in July. We shall see

In March when these casinos closed....a large % of their clientele were smoking gamblers. For the last 2 months they have generated $0 income. For them to now reopen and tell that large population of people who were visiting their casinos and generating revenue for them...Sorry were open but you’re not welcome....is not a good financial decision.

it might be a wise health decision. And it might be a mandated CDC decision. But financially, if you’re trying to recoup money you’ve lost you want to welcome as many people as possible with open arms.

But they are "not" trying to welcome back as many people as possible.  Casinos need to limit the capacity to 50% in the foreseeable future .   If there are some gamblers who won't enter a casino if they must wear a mask and/or can't smoke to protect the health of others, then that only makes it easier for casinos to limit capacity.

But I don't think there are very many of those people.  When the casinos open, in a few weeks, they won't need to welcome them back.  They have been itching for months to get their gambling fix, and they will be there when the doors open.

I could be argued now is the perfect time and that the smokers who are desperate to return may be more accomodating.

Smokers have 1/4 of the casino floors in New Jersey and non-smokers have 3/4 of the casino and yet they still complain.

Who should be more accommodating?

I am not making blanket assumptions I am giving you a real world example where revenues went up because non-smokers started returning to bars and restaurants. Everyone had to comply so there wasn't an alternative. If you had a choice between not gambling or gambling while not smoking which would you do?

I think I already stated that. I will gamble where I can smoke.

I beg to differ on this one.  I cruise strictly on casino comps from multiple cruise lines.  The comp offers lately are crazy!!  Royal Caribbean, who never offers comps on holiday sailings, just offered me a Junior Suite with $500 free play for New Year's Eve (retail price on my confirmation shows $9,426) for $150 in port taxes.  I have no idea what the cruise world will look like by then, but I booked it just in case we're back to "normal".  (At no risk since if I cancel even up to date of sailing I get port taxes returned to me.)  I booked the same offer with them for a February 2021 cruise, too!

These are just a few examples of multiple offers received in the last two weeks.  Cruise lines want players back BAD.

Serious question? How would they know. The virus has entered the body of millions of people...is there some marker that shows how it was contracted?

There are statistics.  I would need to look them up, but it's clear that the major way of spreading the virus is via coughing or sneezing if you're infected.  THere's another stat showing how long the virus lasts on differing surfaces.  In general, as pointed out, it's not significant.

I know some won't come out unless all of this is totally eradicated.  Not going to happen.  It will take decades for COVID 19 to be eradicated, if then.

I do see this as an opportunity for NCL (and all the rest of the cruise lines) to go smokeless.  It costs the cruise lines money to clean and maintain smoking areas.  Now, a cigarette butt, or stogey, which would be a prime carrier for COVID 19, won't be allowed.  Given the ships are going to start going out with around ½ capacity, the number of smokers and the amount of smoking areas that would have to be considered becomes more of an issue.

Don't be surprised if that's one of the qualifiers that ships enforce upon starting back up....no smoking.

again my post was not meant for the 800th smoking debate. It was more an economical comment.

whether you agree or disagree about smoking in casinos. Whether or not you have casinos by you that ban or allow smoking. Not the point.

Banning smoking on the casino floor is coming.  When, is another story.  In my experience this past few days at a recently opened casino where they banned smoking on the casino floor and the casino was at 50 percent capacity.   I enjoyed not smelling the smoke (or smelling like a cigarette once back to my hotel room)  the smokers that were there had an area to smoke but not on the casino floor,  so I think many casinos now will realize they will not be impacted financially after the initial openings of future casinos.  I know the cleaning crew mentioned how nice it was not having to clean up the use to be smoking areas like ashes on the floor and ashtrays. But at least they did have a smoking area for the smokers away from the casino floor.   Everyone wore masks, too. I played 3 card poker and the dealer handles the cards only.  Flips them up for each person (was a small advantage to see other players cards,  not allowed to "look" at other cards prior. ) I like the newer NCL ships like the Bliss,  they had a smoking section that was enclosed for the smokers.  At least that's a start to accommodate most players.

As long as they all do it, I guarantee their revenue will go up.

I was talking about land casinos.  The land casinos need to limit capacity to 50% for now.  They could make things safer for everybody by mandating masks (and banning smoking) until this is over.  They will have no problem filling the casinos to 50%.

There would be no reason to do that on a ship casino because you would be exposed to virus transmission no matter where you are on a ship.  And the ships won't even start sailing until things are safe again.

The smokers should be more accommodating, especially during a pandemic.  People without masks are more likely to spread COVID.  Smokers can not and will not wear masks.

And that's exactly why it's so important for "everybody" to wear a mask in a closed, crowded environment such as a casino.  They can wipe down the machines, sanitize surfaces all that they want.  But if this is primarily spread through droplets, then all it takes is one selfish person, who doesn't even know that they're infected, to spread it to hundreds in the matter of a few hours.

If people who are concerned with catching the virus are wearing a mask,  they are safe, yes? If masks work, why do we need to be 6 feet apart? If being 6 feet apart works, why do we need to wear masks? 🙂

No, the people who are wearing the masks are not safe from others who refuse to wear a mask.  Wearing a mask (unless it is an N95 mask) does very little to protect you from other people's germs.  But masks are very effective  to keep an infected person (who may not know they are infected) from spreading the virus to others.  Masks will catch droplets, but are bad as stopping you from breathing other peoples droplets.  I was reading that it works like this:

Infected person/no mask ==virus==> uninfected person/wears mask 20% effective

Infected person/wears mask ==virus==> uninfected person/no mask  80% effective

Infected person/wears mask ==virus==> uninfected person/wears mask 95% effective

Being 6 feet apart helps.  But if you playing a machine for hours, and an infected person plays a machine 6 feet away without a mask, there is a good chance of transmission.  Casinos can easily mitigate that risk, but they are worried about money.  But this can end up hurting them (and everybody else) in the long run.

What space on a ship is not a "high touch space" or "small space" when it comes to social distancing? Yeah, I have heard that they will use 4-tops in dining rooms, that keeps you and your significant other away from eachother (which may not be a bad thing), but having a 12' aisle between tables (6' on either side), not going to happen. If you occupy every other seat in a theater, you won't maintain 6' distancing. Maybe 2'. Zero possibility that people are going to stay 6' apart when waiting for a drink at a bar (and that bartender touching every key card from every guest, then touching the glass of the next guest... 20 second handwash between taking one person's card and making the next drink, not going to happen).

They should go with hand scanners at the bars and shops. That way the customer can hold their own card and the bartender/shop keeper can just use the hand scanner.

Cloth masks/surgical masks make sure YOU don't spread YOUR germs to someone else. Cloth masks do NOT protect you from getting the virus. If you have a cloth mask on and are near the virus, you will catch the bug. Only N95 respirators will protect you.

As an RN with 44 years of experience I would choose to follow the recommendations of the CDC over those on Facebook, chat rooms, ect...

They have professionals with way more education, and knowledge on the specific topic than you would find elsewhere.
