June 1st announcement coming re: cruise protocol going forward

Recommended Posts

If multiple agents are telling customers that NCL will be releasing info on June 1st it is likely that the low wage agents that you denigrate have been told by management to give that info to customers.

By the same management that is being investigated for telling PCCs to tell customers that Covid was no big deal and wouldn't impact the islands because it was too hot?

“The Coronavirus can only survive in cold temperatures, so the Caribbean is a fantastic choice for your next cruise” and “Scientists and medical professionals have confirmed that the warm weather of the spring will be the end of the Coronavirus.”

Another catch word "might".  Lets not be accountable if you are wrong.  And what will be on your face if your guesses are wrong?

lol, what is the big deal anyway? if i am wrong or right? how does that effect your life, some of you need to go back to work or something.  and i say might because i am not in control , we will see what happens.

paradise cruises stated they will try to start earlier than august. we shall see.

I feel carnivals plan for august looks strong to me, however there could be a covid setback.  one never knows.

Get that Magic "8" Crystal Ball out of moth balls and we will see the answer therein !

Or perhaps the Ouija board would be a better more promising source of information !

We shall see what we shall see all in good time -

So disregard that man behind the curtain making all the booking announcements.

With the capacity spaced-out restraints yet to be determined and food service issues

to be finalized - Que Sera Sera - heck - land based restaurants haven't opened fully.

And as always READ the "'fine print'" - until then dream on about that cruise !

In the places they want to sail out of  first things are open (texas/florida)  and there is still 2 months to go , we should hear a better plan next month

I think many are looking at the current situation of their own area and projecting that.  NY/NJ for example is going to take some time, so those that live on a horse farm there may not realize whats going on in florida.

I think they are taking it seriously now, i agree that they down played it, just as the govt did in the beginning.

No...they're talking about American Cruise Lines and American Queen Steamboats, which operate very small ships on rivers and coastal voyages. Their ships are so small, with fewer than 250 passengers and crew on board, that they aren't even covered by the CDC No Sail Order and their plans do not have to be CDC-approved.  What they're planning to do is unlikely to be  a model for the major cruise lines, which carry thousands of passengers and crew on most of their ships, and which will require CDC approval for implementation. Those CDC requirements for example include medical facility, treatment and passenger evacuation requirements that the small ship river and coastal  lines don't have to provide:

"g. Onboard medical staffing, including number and type of staff, and equipment in sufficient quantity to provide a hospital level of care (e.g., ventilators, facemasks, personal protective equipment) for the infected without the need for hospitalization onshore;" and:

"j. A medical care plan addressing onboard care versus evacuation to on-shore hospitals for critically ill individuals, specifying how availability of beds for critically ill at local hospitals will be determined in advance and how the cruise ship operator will ensure acceptance at local medical facilities to treat the critically ill in a manner that limits the burden on Federal, State, and local resources and avoids, to the greatest extent possible, medivac situations. If medical evacuation is necessary arrangements for evacuation must be made with commercial resources (e.g., ship tender, chartered standby vessel, chartered airlift) and arrangements made with a designated medical facility that has agreed to accept such evacuees. All medical evacuation plans must be coordinated with the U.S. Coast Guard;"

Instead of relying on two self-appointed YouTube posters, you can read about what these river/coastal cruise lines are planning in the Cruise Critic news section:

That is just a preview of things that will likely happen on board ships as far as new protocols for passengers . since none have sailed yet, and the major lines have not revealed the plans yet.  This is not about appeasing the cdc Horse.

If the new protocols do not satisfy the CDC then the ships will not be sailing out of the USA.  Starting in Texas and Florida?

Well I certainly hope that's not it for "screening" -- temperature checks??? LOL Haven't we gone over this a million times? The Bliss sailing I was on when I had Covid-19 had temperature checks both at embarkation and disembarkation.  My sailing had heightened cleaning and disinfecting and no self-serve buffets.  I do admit it all did give me a false sense of security at the time, so it will probably trick a lot of people into thinking they will be safe.

Also, I noticed in the video they showed footage of people getting swab tests during the "screening" section,  but they didn't actually say that ships were testing passengers for Covid.  Is that mandatory for all?  On land when you get a Covid-19 test you have to quarantine until your test results come back so I wonder how that will work on a ship.  And health questionnaires?? Well those are foolproof because people are always truthful on those!

Nothing against these poor YouTubers who are understandably scrambling for content on their cruise channel during the cruise drought, but everything they said is conjecture and assumptions.

It is about what the pax need to do on the ships to appease the CDC.  Nothing was mentioned about bars, nightclubs, theatres, casinos.  They gonna be like they always were or closed?  No one said.

No its not just assumptions, these are the smaller ships plans already laid out  the links are in his description , of course the bigger lines will have some different protocols, we shall see soon what their plan is, this is just an idea of what pax might expect.   im sure they will have tests onboard, but it wont be cost effective to test all.

We already know quite a bit:

1) embarkment temperature checks

2) enforced embarkment window times

3) reduced capacity, probably by closing entire decks which double as quarantine wards

4) plexiglass dividers everywhere

5)  crew worn masks

6)  floor stickers everywhere

7)  all "swipe" cards replaced by RFID contactless "wave" cards; no more staff taking your card, will have mobile readers like you order a drink in the casino or MDR

😎 buffets no longer self serve, most likely table service where servers will serve the premade buffet food

9) social distancing / anti-crowding measures everywhere

10) half of the tables, seating and loungers removed

11) tenders sailing half full

12)  increased medical staff and equipment

Still many unknowns, will hallways become one way, max elevator capacity, how strict they'll be, how they plan on enforcing it and what the consequences are for first time and repeat offenders.  I'd love to see all menus available on the apps and the ability to order but that may be too pricey to implement at the moment

I think they know the cruise experience will be greatly diminished if we were forced to wear masks.  Staff will likely be wearing them , and hopefully optional for Pax.

surprise this looks very similar to the river boat cruises plan that ppl said is wildly different.

No...not just in the US...not anywhere in the world until August or later for the major cruise lines and many others.

They added a July (Baltic I believe) cruise on the Escape just last week. It’s a new listing

I am glad masks are not listed here.  I am not sure how I feel about the constant temperature checks before doing almost anything on the ship.  If they can do it in a way using technology, so that you don't even realize you are being scanned and monitored, then I guess I am OK with it.  But I have to stand in a line to get my temperature checked by a crew member outside of every public venue, then that would not feel like a relaxing vacation to me.  Temperature checks have proven not to really have much efficacy against stopping the spread of Covid, so I am a bit surprised that SO much of NCL's new procedures rely on them.

Well, that cruise may be problematic for passengers to go ashore in various ports: Eg Denmark is until August 31st for the time being opening up their borders only to citizens of Norway, Iceland and Germany. The Danish authorities are currently in dialog with Swedish and Finnish authorities regarding getting mutual access across the borders and NO other nationalities- but not to cities with populations of 750.000 inhabitants or more (leaving Copenhagen  out of the "question" for visitors, exept in transit from the CPH airport to other places in Denmark (if I as a Norwegian want to travel to Denmark, I am now allowed to do so without any quarantene in each end, BUT I would have to provide proof of hotel booked for my entire stay that is NOT in Copenhagen). And regarding Sweden - they have a very high deadly toll due to Covid-19 compared to the rest of the Nordic countries, especially the Stockholm region, so that is why Sweden is currently not in the "deal" together with Norway, Iceland and  Denmark. Germany plan on lifting travel ban for people from the entire EU region from June 15th - but NOT  for people from outside of Europe.

So to believe that the Escape will be able to visit many ports on that itinerary already in July is a very unrealistic "dream" - unless you are of Nordic or German nationality....
