New ship concept

Recommended Posts

While not new, but very popular, would RCCL ever build another ship that has windows you can see out of and see the ocean rather than closed in being in a shopping mall?  It would be great to see the outside of your sailing with nice seating areas to enjoy the view from inside the ship. The whole purpose of cruising is to see the ocean and sites that come with it.   Not the Mall of America.

We sailed Oasis class last year for the first time. I was very disappointed to find there are no indoor venues where you can see the sea. Incredible engineering feat but, for me, not a great cruising experience.

You have just described the Brilliance and the Vision, both of which are expected to be sold.

Cruise ships are beginning to look like casinos to me:  beautiful inside, lots of things to do, few clocks, and lots of encouragement to spend money.

That's why no matter what ship we are on, no matter what cruise line, we head to the upper lounge that has views of the ocean, and that's our go-to spot if we aren't eating, in our cabin, or out on deck.

I'm confused

Great views from SL/CK on Oasis ships

Quantum Class has Two70

Freedom Class has the VCL

Voyager has the VCL as well

Have you tried any of those🤔

I strongly agree.  I am not a fan of the promenade mall.  It's too dark and noisy.  Doesnt have the feel that a cruise ship should have Imo.

So many places to see the ocean while on a cruise.  You're literally surrounded by the ocean.  But maybe it's me.  I live in a coastal city and see the ocean often so if I go a few hours without seeing it, I'm fine.

And that is the disappointment of the Oasis class ships when they took away the VCL to only give it to those sailing in suites.  Of course, understand why, just disappointing.  Was such a beautiful area for everyone previously.

Issues with most VCL on the Royal's ships, they are so high away from the water, you lose touch with the outside.

For a relaxed lounge for a before or after dinner drink there is nothing like what is on the Celebrity  Millennium Class ships,

Rendevous Lounge's are the best  !!

https://www.cruisecritic.com/photos/ships/celebrity-millennium-167/rendezvous-lounge-285652/rendezvous-lounge--v138632/

We did an Alaska Cruise on Infinity............when going through the Inside Passage, the scenery on both sides of the ship was awesome....... We moved around in the lounge to get great views..We were so close to the outside felt like we could reach out and touch the land on each side of the ship.

This lounge is on deck 4.

I wish Royal with build some ships with those kind of views from the lounges.

I seem to recall reading OP liked suites when not booking yachts.

Did that and done now. Vision Class with open glass/Sea Views. Radiance Class was designed using some the best of Voyager and Vision(Glass). Many areas to sit with Sea Views on Radiance Class. Years later they put Cabins in some these areas on Vision. Actually good mix for now with Ship Classes, some having Centrum, some having those "Shopping Malls" and others for now with Sea Views. Choice... Radiance is my Favorite and only Class been on for yrs. In past all Cruise Ships looked alike, more differences over last 20yrs. But don't think you will get what you're talking about. Now, with economy and CV, what we have is going be it for yrs

The only public area from within the ship that has ocean views is all the way at the rear with 270.  The Esplanade, in my opinion, is a complete utter failure of a design.   Even the Oasis class doesn't feature that many shops.

Cruising has changed over the years and for the large cruiselines such as RCCL the highlight is not anymore being out at sea, it's about being out at sea on a entertainment venue catering to a different much younger crowd. Neverheless on the larger ships as mentioned baove you have enough opportunities to explore the sea.Firstly, the newere ships have many more balcony cabins, event venues such as 270 on Quantum Class or even the Boardwalk area on Oasis Class. For the more classic experience, on Quantum Class you can walk around almost the whole lenght of the ship on Deck 15 surounded by the ocean.

Otherwise, the more classic built ships, which tend to be now a days the luxury expedition or high end cruiselines such as also Azamara and Silversea where you have more inside venues with views on the sea. Also, the Edge Class on Celebrity has great new experiences with ocean views both inside and outside, one of the highlights Magic Carpet.

I guess they would have never seen the view from the trough on Oasis Class, ops I mean wind jammer.

LOL, I totally forgot about the yachts until you mentioned it.

I guess if you want to see the ocean you book a balcony cabin.  If you want to see the promenade you book those cabins. On Oasis and Allure; you can book central park cabins where you see central park which is pretty quiet; or you can book the boardwalk cabins and get to see the ocean and boardwalk area both.

As you know the vast majority of people on Oasis class do not have access to SL/CK.

Agree 270 and VCL are wonderful spaces, pity Oasis class doesn't have something similar

The OP has said previously she only does suites.

Oasis used to have a public VCL, but it seems it was under utilized

That makes each ship class unique and since preferences vary each one will find a ship class they like best.

Also upstairs in the music hall, sorrentos, la patisserie, boleros, all 4 MDRs, Chops, Wonderland, Jamies, the Solarium, pool decks, Johnny rockets, windjammer, gym, and seaplex. All of these areas have ocean views.

That may be your view but it is certainly not shared by everyone.

If all the ships were built like that we probably would have been done with cruising as a family after 2 or 3 cruises, instead we have sailed over 20 times.  We are not interested in sitting for hours staring at the same blue water or seeking out those magical views.  Nothing wrong with that it’s just not for us.   We enjoy what the large  ships have to offer on sea days with all the activities, entertainment and restaurants in board all packaged  together in one nice bundle with port stops in several different countries where there is a variety of things to do.  Royal’s large ships work because there are so many different things to do that it makes cruising easy for families with diverse interests.

There are many cruise lines out there that fit your needs and what you are looking for In a vacation.  Royal is not trying to, not should they cater to everyone.  If their product offering doesn’t fit your taste and needs you should look elsewhere as opposed to criticizing it and expecting them to change to suit you.

Fortunately, "not packed with people spending money" seems to have become the definition of underutilized with RCI. The quiet spaces seem to become cabins, bars, or up charge restaurants.
