Newcastle berth occupied by P&O Oceana

Recommended Posts

Hi the Northumbrian berth at North Shields which is used for the “Newcastle” Marella cruises is being occupied by Oceana from the P & O line.  The Port of Tyne site shows it in situ until 15th September.  This must throw the cruises scheduled from Newcastle on 1st August and onwards into some doubt.  There are only two quays and the other is for the DFDS. Ferry.

Was this just sharing information or did you have a question?  It's not clear.

I've been watching a lot of cruise ship movements around the south coast - the movements are due to the need to bunker and re-stock supplies in port, anchoring off-shore to avoid port fees, and to venture out into the English channel to empty waste water tanks and to give the oily bits  of the machinery some exercise to ward off the cobwebs or whatever.

And sometimes a foray out of port for a couple of days to make space for ships embarking and disembarking various ships' crews to repatriate them.

Four Marella ships have been at the Nab anchorage off the Isle of Wight for a couple of months now, interspersed with quick visits to Southampton port (Marella Discovery in there today) and exercising themselves in the Channel. At the moment a couple of Royal Caribbean ships are keeping them company at the Nab anchorage.

Oceana berthed in Dover for a while, then at anchorage in Weymouth Bay along with most of her sisters and a couple of Queens, before heading to Newcastle.

P&O have now paused their cruises  until at least 15th October. I suspect that other cruise lines will do much the same, but if another ship needs that Newcastle berth, for instance embarking a Marella cruise, then Oceana can vacate that berth for a day or two and doubtless tie that in with the need to empty her bowels.

Stay safe and sane, folks

(I'm simply staying safe :classic_wink:)

Living in Southampton near the channel they sail in and out of, getting to see so many different ships that I haven’t seen before.

i mean today we got Empress of the Seas,  Carnival Breeze, Marcella Explorer and Queen Mary 2.

Already had in Majesty of the Seas, Jewel of the Seas.. can see there’s a fair few anchored off the east coast of Isle of Wight and several off Weymouth.

Really are odd times, so used to seeing ships come and go, but seeing largely ghost ships is a shame, but totally necessary at the moment..

Watched the Oceana come into the Tyne from the south side of the river. Looked quite sad with a few crew on deck waving to us on shore. The captain certainly gave us all a good old noisy greeting. He was blasting that horn all the way up to the berth.

Unfortunately, there are crew members stuck on board.

Yeah you can see a few dotted around on deck.

saw a fair few board majesty of the seas the other day, thought they were repatriating and sailed to Asia where I think majesty is mainly based.
