Hotels within walking distance to the Port in Vancouver

Recommended Posts

Hello all, we are planning a cruise out of Vancouver next year and we need a hotel close to the port that is reasonably priced doesn't have to be cheap.  We want to be able to walk to the port, would be nice to be within walking distance for restaurants because we will not have a car.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance and be safe and Blessed

"Reasonably priced" and "walk to port" is an oxymoron in Vancouver.

What is your budget in Canadian Dollars?

Plus who knows what prices are going to be like next year!

very true no way to know what will be going on then.  I would like to stay under 275.00 to 300.00 Canadian.

$300.00 CDN usually won't get you within walking distance of the port, however right now the prices appear to be very reasonable but that probably has to do with no cruise traffic this year.  In a normal year - no way.

The Pan Pacific is right at the port, check to see what they offering for next year - you might get lucky.

The biggest unknown variable here OP is how far YOU can comfortably walk, with luggage. Personally I'd consider any hotel in the downtown core walkable to the pier - the furthest possible handful are still under two miles walking, and the majority a mile or less. Sidewalks are everywhere, in good condition, and there are very few streets with a slope that makes it difficult to wheel luggage up or down.

For $300, you should be able to find a room in the majority of 3* hotels - maybe not the ones closest to the pier on a pre-cruise night, but plenty of others. By far the best deal remains the YWCA Hotel, which added a shiny new tower to cope with demand as it consistently sells out in summer especially on pre-cruise nights so is npow even more desirable than it was before (and it's consistently ranked in the top 20ish of all hotels in the city, above many of the 4* places, on TripAdvisor, Expedia and other sites with rankings). Blind bidding sites are also a very safe bet here - there's literally no downtown hotel that is NOT in a convenient location for sightseeing, shopping, and eating. Personally since a good night's sleep is the primary concern for me I might avoid the handful of hotels along Granville St - that's our official entertainment district, with many late-licensed bars and nightclubs, which makes it the loudest part of the city when it comes to drunk idiots queuing for the limited nightbuses when SkyTrain stops running around 1am. Not dangerous - but a street-facing room without excellent soundproofing could mean earplugs are needed unless you want to be woken up by drunken tomfoolery in the wee small hours.

Frankly you'll get by far the most depth of info by doing a simple comparison of Tripadvisor ratings and Google mapping - that will cover not just how far from the pier (search for Canada Place Cruise Terminal on maps) but also give you a detailed, virtual walking route that you could literally follow along on your screen to see landmarks, slopes etc. No matter where you book downtown you will have MANY restaurants within 10mins walk.

We stayed at the Listel Hotel (smaller boutique style hotel) last year - walking distance to the port, mostly downhill.  We travel with wheeled bags and no large luggage.  I booked directly with the hotel, a large room/suite for $220 CDN so less than $200 US.

We took the Skytrain from the airport to downtown Vancouver.

Another option is t take the seabus across to North Vancouver.  Pinnicle Hotel there was nice. short walk to seabus on both sides of the bay.

Both the Pan Pacific whihc sits on top of the crusie ship terminal and the FAirmont Waterfront Hotel which is across the street from the terminal will have their porters deliver your luggage to the ship for you... and they are wonderful hotels but expensive...
