Tips for choosing a QUIET cabin

Recommended Posts

We always want to have a quiet cabin on whichever ship we sail on as neither of us sleeps particularly well. We have to have an outside cabin but not necessarily a balcony.

What tips do more experienced cruisers have for choosing quieter cabins?

Is the front of the ship, away from the engines and propellers generally quieter?

Is it better to be on a deck between others with just cabins on them as opposed to public spaces?

All advice and recommendations gratefully received.

Cabins above and below..mid- aft is what we prefer....And never a connecting cabin.

You can't hear the engines, even on the lowest passenger deck...they are DEEP in the bowels of the ship.  Most would recommend a cabin on a deck where there are cabins above and below you....to minimize the chance of hearing chair scraping of thumping from public decks.

But, you need to understand that NO area of the ship is 100% quiet all the time.  You are likely to hear hallway noises...doors tend to slam, especially balcony cabin doors....and you can hear when folks are passing your cabin and talking/laughing, etc..
