One night pre cruise Amsterdam, large group

Hello,

We are sailing on NCL from Amsterdam in May and are looking for somewhere to stay for 1 night. It is a multi generational family trip of 12 people. Normally we do Caribbean from a Florida port and book a 2-3 bedroom condo that sleeps everyone. Is there anything similar in Amsterdam? Hotels appear to be very pricey and accommodate 2-3 guests max.

You might try a site such as VRBO or airbnb. Accommodations will be very different in Amsterdam from what you have experienced in the Caribbean - it will be almost impossible to find accommodations that sleep 12 in the city center (but I did find a few possibilities by searching on airbnb).

I think the best option for a group is to take the train from Airport to Amsterdam Centraal and the book either Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City or DoubleTree Amsterdam.

Both hotels are walking distance from train station and cruise ship terminal and also close to city center - then you’ll avoid expensive taxis. 
You might also consider to post you question in https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/148-british-isleswestern-europe/ - local people might check that forum rather than this Northern Europe Forum.

It might be rather difficult since May is always rather busy. Indeed hotels can be very expensive then. Early May more then later in May due to tuliptime and various holidays. For a group you might try one of these hostels: https://www.stayokay.com/en/amsterdam

AirB&B is very regulated in Amsterdam due to many problems in the past. Most houses are small and donot have accommodations for such a large group. The same with many condos, that in general often have a minimumstay of 3 or more nights. PS be aware Amsterdam if on the other Western Europe board, where you might get more answers.

PS You can check hotels like Marriott or Hilton, they probably have some rooms for 3 or 4 persons. Also this hotel has some family rooms. However again you are traveling in an expensive and busy  time of the year. https://www.lecoin.nl/en/

We stayed at the Doubletree by Hilton Centraal . It was centrally located near the, city center, central train station, tram terminal and not far from the cruise terminal (some people walked).

We have been living in the Netherlands for the last 18 months. As a general rule, European hotel rooms only sleep two people. A room with two queens is very unusual. There are very few bargains to be had in Amsterdam. It is an extremely expensive city.

 

Ignoring the budget, my two favorite picks for a pre cruise hotel are the DoubleTree and the Movenpick. The Movenpick is in the same building as the cruise terminal.

 

It you are more budget sensitive, look at the CitizenM. I stay there a lot for business trips. It's lots cheaper than the big chains. Rooms are very small. I'll describe them as "hipster meets Star Trek."

 

Schiphol location is at the airport. Amstel location is in a very good neighborhood with excellent public transit.

We’re going to be in Amsterdam for a couple of days pre-cruise next year and want to stay somewhere near the center of town ( museums, canals, restaurants, etc).  There are only 2 of us.  Amy suggestions?

Your choices are endless. I would suggest checking a site such as Booking.com where you can filter your searches by area and price. We have enjoyed the following hotels: Pulitzer (lovely boutique hotel on Prinsengracht canal), Movenpick (adjoining the PTA - quite handy for cruise passengers) & Hotel TwentySeven (amazing hotel with spectacular service overlooking the Royal Palace - the location is top notch).

Sorry to post and run, Covid has everything out of sorts.

Now the issue is trying to find car service to return to airport. Does anyone have suggestions?

Yes you can walk from the train station to the hotel. If you leave from the front of the station you'll turn left and walk down hill. After crossing the tram tracks there is a long ramp. Go to end of the ramp and the hotel will be just behind you on your left. Can't help with car service since we always take the  train. Safe travels!

You can also walk out the back of the station (the water side) rather than the front (about a 15 minute walk). I have included maps of both front and rear entrances and routes below:
