Possible Carnival Cancellation/Delay

We're booked on the Carnival Dream (Galveston, TX) embarking on 8/17. I noticed today while checking prices that the date was no longer appearing; then I got a notification from AA that my flight booked through Carnival had been cancelled. As far as I can tell, that flight is still operating so I think Carnival probably cancelled the flight either because the cruise will be cancelled, or there will be an itinerary change that necessitates a new flight time. Anyone else have insight?

trcamp, welcome to Cruise Critic. Sorry to have that happen to you. Did you book under their Fly2theFun program? If you did, Carnival owes you an explanation. My suggestion would be to call Carnival on Monday morning first thing.

Is it still showing up under your booking number?

I Did the same with our Breeze booking for Sept. 5.  It still shows as booked on the CCL site.  But searching for the cruise as if looking to book and it doesn't show up.

Wondering if maybe CCL has closed booking in order to reduce capacity ?

Thanks! We started getting into traveling a few years ago and have done just about everything except a cruise, but it looks like we picked the wrong year to try one out lol

Yes it was through Fly2theFun, thanks for the advice.

Good question, just checked and not seeing it anywhere on Carnival, when I put the record locator into AA the ticket comes back as cancelled.

I'm booked from 8/31. Gone now from carnival but still can book on another booking site. .. I've said I'm finding that odd. I got  a $20 price reduction this past Monday from the price on the site who said he called carnival. Cant book it on carnival though. Odd stuff going on.

Watched a cruise video today and it appears that Carnival has pulled back on their announcement of the August startup date. This comes directly from Carnivals Mr. Donald. The comments were not very nice towards Carnival. Lots of people think Carnival just got people to book cruises to gain revenue, knowing they were going to cancel them all along. I sure hope this was a coincidence. I have always looked at Carnival as being a company you can trust. With this bad news we are hanging on By a thread. Have a B2B booked and paid for September 5 thru the 19th.

Hi Fire Fly,

I have met you at one of the meet and greets on a carnival sailing out of Galveston. I can’t remember the ship or sailing date. I am pretty sure it was an Ultra or Premier casino cruise.

I have a B2B sailings on Carnival Dream for August 31st and September 5th. I can still see the August 31st sailing on Carnival’s website.........but not the September 5th? I can see that maybe the 5th might have been taken off due to capacity as that is Labor Day cruise.

Someone just reposted that CEO video. It is actually from May'20.

Hey we might meet up again. I am booked on dream and now it's back showing on carnival site, so who knows. Hope we get to cruise again. Were you the one I talked to about sharing a cruise sometime in the future?  Not sure of her cc handle.

As far as why cruiselines are booking cruises they know will be cancelled, they need the cash flow.

Like EZ1 said, that video is almost a month old. There's a thread or two about it buried somewhere on here. It was a good interview. If Donald got hate for it, it wasn't deserved in my opinion. I think he handled himself quite well.

They made their Aug. 1st announcement in early May, about 3 months before their prospective return date. I seriously doubt they had a secret plan to announce a return date 3 months ahead of time, knowing they were going to cancel them anyway. They want to resume as soon as they can, so I don't think they'd be playing games like that.

There's another thread where several people mentioned that their booked cruises are no longer showing up on the site, but they're still in their Cruise Managers. Nobody knows for sure, but my guess is because they're being capacity controlled, so they were pulled down. But what's odd for you is the cancelled flight. If you're ship simply met their capacity goal, but was still sailing, I wouldn't think your flight would be cancelled.

Just to clarify, when you log in to your Carnival account, can you still view that booking in your Cruise Manager?

Hopefully it will be a go.......but only time will tell. I am sure our paths will cross again.😎

Our August 29th cruise is no longer showing available.  It is one of two things, they have reached the desired capacity or the cruise is to be canceled.  I've tried to be optimistic throughout all of this, but now all my optimism is fading. 😔

I am thinking that if they have reached desired capacity the cruise would still show but would say "sold out" in each of the stateroom categories.  Hoping you get to sail 🤞 but sadly, it's not looking good.

I have been watching the 8/1  cruise on the Magic come and go since Carnival did the last cancellations.  The sailing would disappear and a day or so later they're would be a number of people join the roll call. I think it will cancel but this has been happening.

I just checked with our roll call and Fly2theFun has not been canceled for our August 29th Breeze cruise.  So there's that.

As I've posted on other threads cruises which dont appear on carnival site can be purchased on another booking site. I see my august 31 is back but was gone for weeks. I got a price drop last monday because it went down on the site I purchased it.

If you know something others don't, post your source. Otherwise, don't deliberately post misinformation.

It’s an opinion, but I am sure it’s not sailing
