Live cruise replay - Radiance to Alaska - August 19-26, 2016

Recommended Posts

Tours the end of the cruise we did make one whale sighting then if was time to head back to the harbor. We had a great time but it was not the type of tour we like as there was just too many people on the boat. Thankfully all the tours in the rest of our ports will be small group tours.

Dinner tonight was at Chinook. We were told the food was terrific and it did not disappoint,

I started with a flight of Alaskan beers, perfect for wetting your whistle

Marie of course had salmon

I had mac & cheese with scallops. And it was ooh so cheesy.

Not only is the food and drinks great but there was an amazing view as well

When you book the train on your own as I did, the train station is a short distance from the cruise terminal.  Royal also offers a chartered train that stops very close to the terminal but it leaves later in the day and doesn't always offer Gold Star service.

The Alaskan Railroad owns the pier and the cruise terminal so they offer free motorcoaches for the 1/2 mile trip from the train station to the cruise terminal but on a pretty day I enjoy the walk.  My checked luggage that I dropped off at the train station in Anchorage went directly to the ship so there was no luggage to manage in Seward.

Not a sign you see everyday.

It's an easy walk, straight down the road.

The first good look at Radiance of the Seas.

Check in was a breeze.  A short time later it was up the gangway and onto the ship.

After checking in we headed to Windjammer for that first cruise lunch. Pretty quiet but not surprising since we don't sail out till 8 pm.

I can't get over the size of the Inside cabin.  It looks much bigger than I realized!🤔  Thanks for taking me along...I can never get enough of pictures of ships, both inside and out😉😁

Just in case its of interest, when travelling between Anchorage and Seward, if you have a car and the time, Girdwood and the Portage Valley make excellent stops. We spent a couple of nights Girdwood and visited the Alaskan Wildlife Conservation Center, as well as taking the tram up Mt Alyeska, and driving towards Whittier to visit Begich-Boggs Visitor Center, taking the short hike to Byron Glacier and the boat trip to Portage Glacier.

LUCKYNANA - we had an inside cabin when we were on Radiance too, 4 of us, quad share, 2 adults and children aged 5 and 7, there was plenty of space. We have since been on MSC Poesia and Coral Princess, also inside cabins, and Radiance is the most spacious, the other 2 didn't have room for 2 seater couch!

Twangster uses a very nice wide angle lens. 😉

Today we will be sailing by the Hubbard Glacier but first there is a Meet & Mingle to attend. I guess many decided to sleep in as the crowd was small.

Of course with the lighter crowd our chances of winning a raffle prize went up. We lucked into some free movies

This is the first time of seeing this style of the free memo pad & pen. I wonder if it will catch on?
