March vs October

Hello All,

I posted yesterday under a under another topic but wanted to start with a new question. As we are from the US, we’re resolved our October cruise will be a no-go. We’re looking at options to reschedule and may be considering March versus October 2021. We were originally sailing Southbound on the Trollfjord but the Kong Harald was suggested as a good alternative (thanks). Our goal is to see the Northern Lights and the beautiful coastline. So, any info on sailing in Mid-March would be appreciated.

Thanks....

We did the RT in March and loved it. And saw the Northern Lights! We loved it so much that we were going to do the NB as part of a bigger trip but got canceled.

I'll suggest March rather than October - January to March are probably the three most popular months for Aurora hunting because they bring long dark nights.
Aurora might more likely appear in colder nights. January is cold, in February the weather is improving and in March, the temperatures begin to rise.

Also the sky must be clear - more likely with clear nights in March than October. Also in March more daylight, however still possible to see the scenery while dark

At the end the likelihood of seeing the lights depends on solar activity and clear skies.
