We typically book our own air for multiple reasons. However, in these days of high uncertainty booking the flights via Oceania has an upside. If they cancel a cruise, then they have to deal with the airlines and it’s one less hassle for you. We don’t know how long the current generous airline policies will continue.

Likewise , if the airlines cancel specific flights it becomes Oceania’s job to get you to the ship!

Not really pinotlover.  Read the T's and C's.  While O will probably help, not guaranteed as airlines are a third party and the T's and C's put the responsibility for third party performance on you the passenger and not on O.

I agree with this right now.  When we cancelled our cruise in March (a couple of days before Oceania cancelled it) I didn't have as good an outcome with the airline, but did get some reimbursement.

Seems that they have been more cooperative than most?

It does not hurt to be  on their "Premier" list... and talk to their  Premier line ......loyalty has its perks in troubled times

Personally, we decided to go with the air thru O  as the difference in cost was less than what we could book on our own currently. Because of the uncertainty of travel right now, we would prefer to have O deal with any airline cancellations if it becomes necessary.  When our April river cruise was cancelled, the company dealt with our airfare also so we didn't have to join the hundreds of thousands trying to get a refund or at least a voucher. That entire trip has been rescheduled for April 2021 and we already have our flight itinerary thru the company. They also"'ate" the price increase for next year, which had previously been announced prior to Covid-19.

We’ve only used their included airfare once as the difference in price was minimal. However we’ve used our own flights on other cruises and have saved between £350-£500pp for cruise only. These saving have meant that I could book flights that suited us and book pre/post hotel for the same price as we saved.

On a related subject, yesterday I was able to cancel FOUR AA award flights (each for 2 people) and deposit the miles back into account without a fee. The taxes will be refunded as well.

Two were domestic awards for Oct & Nov and two were in Australia for a cancelled cruise next Feb & March.

I was very pleased. Normally each redeposit for 2 would be $175 - times 4 that would have been $700.

Thank you AA.
