Riley Tench (Quantum) Is Going Home

Recommended Posts

Riley Tench is going home.  If you don't know who Riley Tench is, he's a crewmember on Quantum who has been living on the ship for the last 5 months due to Covid-19.  He's a Youtuber and has several good videos posted, including a cross-video that he did with Chris Wong, another Royal crewmember Youtuber.  Riley's video reinforces that it will likely be several months before Royal cruises again.  They are sending remaining, non-essential crew members home.  Here's Riley's video

On FB, people who are in touch with various crew members have reported that their friends are being told to prepare to return in two months.

There is an email that was sent to crew that stated it will be 2-3 months before contract renewals even begin.  Sadly, there is risk that the necessary Visas held by many of these crew members will begin to expire.  With US embassies either shut or functioning at limited capacity around the world, this will complicate things even further.

Bottom line is 2020 will either operate extremely minimally or not at all. RCL & NCLH intend to give their proposals to the CDC around 8/15.  CDC has already told the cruise lines that it could take 4-6 months to even review and approve these protocols.  Expect more detail on 7/24 when there is further extension of the no sail order.

Kokomo, you seem to have some insider knowledge.  Do you think one way Radiance Alaska sailings be running in June 2021?

Of course, that's assuming the the cruise lines are not stringing their employees along like they are their customers.

Not to be doom-n-gloom, just playing devils advocate.

Hi - so sorry, but no way I could know.  Dependent on so many factors that are outside everyone’s control.  I can tell you I too am booked for Alaska in June 2021, so am hopeful it will sail.

I think the crew are being told not to expect to come back anytime soon. Not "maybe 2 or 3 months." In other words, don't wait up for us. The first new contracts will probably be to rotate out the seamen in the minimal manning crews and then to onboard limited additional crew to ready the ships for return to service.
