This link here [https://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/23202-princess-shuffles-alaska-and-europe-deployment-for-2021.html] provides background.

In summer 2021:

Majestic now replaces Regal (Alaska)

Regal now replaces Grand (Southampton)

Grand now comes back to the West Coast for a full-time summer (Los Angeles), which is rare for Princess

Thanks for the update.  I had assumed canceling our cruise had a lot to do with the Regal not going to Australia and returning to the west coast for the AK season. Looks like a bit of shuffling around of ships.  I imagine there will be more to come. So now we wait for 2022 to hopefully make the Sydney to US cruise.

We were really looking forward to this. Now, we may cancel our

Regal New Zealand cruise which was ending on April 9th. This

was to be our ride home to Washington State.

The $15 was usually what they gave you for a cruise that was cancelled a year or more before embarkation date, before passengers would have expenses associated with air or hotels.  Folks could conceivably have booked flights already or secured hotel rooms.  Hopefully if anyone has purchased those things, they are refundable.

The official announcement:

Princess Cruises Announces Deployment Changes in Alaska and Europe for Summer 2021

New Summer Homeport Sailings from Los Angeles

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (July 8, 2020) – Princess Cruises announced today changes to its deployment in Alaska and Europe for summer 2021 with Majestic Princess arriving to the West Coast and setting sail for her inaugural Alaska season, and Regal Princess returning to Europe.
In 2021, guests will be able to experience Majestic Princess for the first time in Alaska. She will be deployed to Alaska replacing Regal Princess, picking up all Regal Princess published Seattle Inside Passage departures from May to September, except Regal Princess May 4, 2021 departure of a five-day Alaska Sampler which will be cancelled.

Regal Princess will sail from Southampton, England replacing Grand Princess for summer 2021. Regal Princess will sail on 17 roundtrip departures from Southampton to the Mediterranean, Norway, Scandinavia, Iceland and other popular destinations in Europe. As a result of this change, the Regal Princess South Pacific Crossing, and two Grand Princess seven-day Europe cruises will be cancelled.
Grand Princess will be deployed to the West Coast for a new summer Mexico and California Coast season departing from Los Angeles with details to be announced later this summer.

Guests booked on Regal Princess Alaska and Grand Princess Europe voyages will have their booking automatically moved from Regal Princess to Majestic Princess in Alaska, and from Grand Princess to Regal Princess in Europe, and will receive a new booking confirmation.

Not true:

The ship to watch might be the Grand.  It is in and out of Singapore up until March 23 at which time it was headed to Dubai, Rome and eventually Southampton.  The Grand's cruises out of Southampton will now be operated by the Regal.

The Grand is now being scheduled to operate Mexico and California cruises out of Los Angeles. (see #15 above)

So the question is (which Princess cannot answer yet) is how will the Grand get from Singapore to L.A.  Possibly head down to Australie then a trans-Pacific?  Who knows.  Time will tell but I plan to stay 'tuned'.

We had an obstructed deluxe balcony booked on the 21 day Auckland to Seattle Regal Princess for $7200. A Mid Aft Balcony on this cruise is $16556.

The prices are up right now, but they might drop by March.

Yes, that is a significant price difference, and I was just responding to your question about a similar itinerary.

Taking into account the airfare over to Auckland, the total cost is reduced sailing from San Pedro.  Also, your Regal is 21 nights, while the Star is 28 and includes Princess Plus.  Not sure if your price for the Regal includes P+.

Everyone bases their decision on a cruise for what is important to them.  We are itinerary-driven, and and ocean view cabins are fine with us.

So, if you are going to price-check the Star, take into account the length of the cruise, airfare, and P+.  (Also, I price-check online with our Big Box TA.)
