Dover to Airport time frame and planning

Interested in your thoughts regarding departing the ship from port of dover and getting to airport/thru customs. What kind of time should we expect and allow? Do many just go to airport day after departing cruise ship? It looks like departing the ship begins pretty early as itinerary has docking time at 5 am. thanks!

Guessing  your airport will be be Heathrow (LHR) or Gatwick (LGW).

But which one makes a difference.

And you won't be going through Customs in Britain. You will be going through two Immigration procedures. Customs won't happen until you touch US soil.

We took the Princess excursion to the airport (Heathrow in our case) that included a visit to Canterbury. We found it well worth it. It also makes you feel you are still on your cruise despite having disembarked your ship. Having a few people on the excursion among the very few on the bus who we knew from our roll call and had met on the ship probably also contributed to this feeling.

 

The cruise line tells you the earliest you can have a flight scheduled if you wish to do this. Ours was just within the range.
