PelicanBill Posted July 23, 2020 #2 Share Posted July 23, 2020 Royal Caribbean and Celebrity cruise from there ... I did Anthem last year and it was a pleasure. Hard to say if any cruises will go rest of the year but check their schedules and good luck! There is a great FAQ thread on the RCL board about the Bayonne terminal. (or was it the East Coast departures board? could be there.)

I was thinking since NJ covid cases are doing so well there may be a slight chance of starting cruises from there.
hallux Posted July 23, 2020 #4 Share Posted July 23, 2020 Yes, there is ZERO public transit to the port. You can get to the end of the road leading out there but that's it, and you do NOT want to walk it (I've driven it). Definitely RCI and Celebrity only from there. New York is doing pretty good on COVID numbers also, but I think the main obstacle is the CDC.
PelicanBill Posted July 23, 2020 #5 Share Posted July 23, 2020 Good point on transit. Taxi/Uber for sure, and get there on the early side as entrance seems to back up ridiculously about noon.
hallux Posted July 23, 2020 #6 Share Posted July 23, 2020 Yeah, when I sailed from therein 2018 I got there around 10:30 or 11 and it was a breeze, but I imagine much later and it might have been difficult.

I was glad i remembered uber existed. side note , my driver got yelled out by a cabbie and i had to get out and defend my little driver, it was a big scene. hallux Posted July 23, 2020 #8 Share Posted July 23, 2020 Here's the East Coast Departures board. LOTS of discussion of Bayonne in there. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/317-east-coast-departures/
hallux Posted July 23, 2020 #9 Share Posted July 23, 2020 I don't recall it being gravel, even in 2014 when they were just starting construction of the new terminal. It IS narrow, and 2 miles is a bit far to drag a suitcase.
mjkacmom Posted July 23, 2020 #10 Share Posted July 23, 2020 The reason our area is doing so well is because we aren’t opened up yet. No dining in restaurants, no gyms, no bars, masks worn inside and out. My daughter’s university just announced the fall semester will be online. NY, NJ and CT seem to have partnered, and are asking those from 31 states to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.
HowardK Posted July 23, 2020 #11 Share Posted July 23, 2020 One of the reasons I do NCL vs RCCL is the public transportation, I tend to go from S Jersey to New York overnight ahead of time- vs driving to Bayonne and parking

sammee Posted July 23, 2020 #13 Share Posted July 23, 2020 I'd prefer Bayonne myself or even Baltimore (Carnival & Royal). I don't hold much hope in either of them. But that would be so great.

I was in Atlantic city this week and everyone i saw had a mask on, i will say harrahs had more than 25% occupancy on sunday and may get dinged by the gov soon.

Take Amtrak to Newark Penn station and a taxi or Uber to the port from there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

mugtech Posted July 23, 2020 #20 Share Posted July 23, 2020 Trans Bridge Bus Service has a ride from the Lehigh Valley Airport right to the ship. 40% discount for those 62 or older. Worth checking out depending on how you expect to get to NJ.

You'll have to quarantine for 14 days in NJ before carrying on to the terminal. 5 hours ago, seaman11 said: Yes i think this has clearly showed it works. You mean you violated the mandatory quarantine rule from anyone from Virginia? Fairfax County has been the hotspot of the state. Virginia wasn't added to the quarantine list until 7/21, so when seaman11 arrived here he wasn't in violation of the quaranatine.
