Maybe they should go back to their home ports.

These countries should have some obligation to providing the flags. ===> Maybe so!

Barbados is glad to have them -for more than just one reason.

This evening's cruise ship pics from Carlisle Bay, Barbados.

On marinetraffic.com I notice there are 3 or 4 of them out there -

miles offshore - they'll be back soon!

But for now it's just these ships.

Yes, I'll wish you luck.. we're almost at the end of our 3rd week of lock down, and it's not all been bad. Even our daily walk reveals a village much as it was 70 years or more back, without a vehicle in sight ( except for the police); people are falling over themselves to volunteer to help the elderly/underlying illnesses; the whole nation gathers outside their doors or hangs from the window of their flats on Thursday evening to clap the NHS and other carers; there's a general air of friendliness and care around. I hope the atmosphere is similar in Barbados. xx

Today's supermarkets in Barbados..

it was like Christmas Eve last-minute-rush --only worse.

Government will be adapting their population controls over the weekend
and hopefully next week will be more orderly.

Lockdown has now been set back from 5 p.m. (why??)

to the usual 8 p.m. Much better.

Still stuck in Barbados! Sunday 26th. April.

We're down to five cruise ships now, in our waters..

but they're starting to leave, one by one.

Kinda sad to see them go, but they must.

TWO Carnivals

steamed into Bridgetown Port this afternoon around 5 p.m.

Carnival VALOR first, and then Carnival FREEDOM a bit later.

Crew are being repatriated, I'm told.

Knowing that a few islanders work the Main Dining Rooms on board
the ships may be making side-trips to St. Vincent? St. Lucia? and others
to get ppl home.

That brings our cruise ship total to seven now..

ships that are Here For Now.

I am now informed

that the above crew members are not from these E. Carib. islands

and are heading home on charter flights from our local island airport

to various Far East destinations like Manila, Jakarta, etc.

NCL did a similar repatriation via charter flights

about 2 wks. ago, so this is another such operation.

Two Carnivals have joined 'the Barbados Fleet'

- Freedom and Valor -- Glory arrives next week.

But for now the three ships at anchor in Carlisle Bay

that seem to be permanent fixtures these days

are the same three - Vision, Luna and Odyssey

Look carefully..

you might see other ships on the far horizon

IN between now and then, I've had a STEMI heart attack!

but that aside.. ships have been coming and going

while I was out of commission.

On  marinetraffic.com

I've just seen two Carnivals beating a hasty retreat at around 14 kts.

halfway over to St. Lucia, obviously going somewhere, as a pair!

AIDAluna and Seabourn Odyssey

now seem to be almost-permanent fixtures, they've been here so long!

Caribbean Princess is a new arrival.

Aplmac, Your news is significant!

I hope you are now well, and will continue to be so.  ===> Thank you.

I've missed your excellent photos, and your updates.

Greatly improved, and continuing daily! Onward and upward.

I just had a look at the local Port schedule to come for the next few weeks

and it would appear that HARMONY of the Seas shall linger with us for quite a while

Have a look at this schedule thru to next month!

I said somewhere on the site that Carnival co had organised all Indian crew members in the UK,   from P&O/Cunard ships, to return home on Ventura, and there was a great movement of people from the ships ready for last Tuesday's sailing.

At the last minute, the Indian Government agreed that all these crew members could fly home, so the ship returned to her dock.

Perhaps this has happened to other Carnival owned ship moored near you, Aplmac?

I was six days in the local Hospital, so I was completely out of touch

with local marine happenings

- something I was following via observation and via marinetraffic.com.

Even when I got out, I wasn't paying much attention

so there's a big gap there...

I know that while I was in, there were quite a few Carnival ships around

and I missed the whole ruddy lot!

Fairly sure they have now come and gone while I wasn't looking.

What they were doing here, I don't know

but wouldn't be surprised if they were getting crew onto charter flights

home-bound from our local airport. I know there's been a bit of that going on

over the past few weeks/month, so there is now an established procedure

for others to follow.

I haven't heard from my usual source of info, so I'm pretty much in the dark!

There were five ships in/around Carlisle Bay/Port this evening
Two Princesses (Emerald and Caribbean) and the usual AIDAluna and Odessey
with Explorer of the Seas alongside in the Port

and  Serenade of the Sea offshore somewhere. That's it!!

This info release from our Gov't. Information Service

just an hour ago....

Two people tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday

out of a total of 163 tests conducted by the local Laboratory.
They are a 58-year-old Barbadian woman,

who arrived in the island yesterday and whose case is under investigation,

and a 42-year-old crew member of one of the cruise ships off Barbados,

who was transferred from the ship for emergency medical treatment.

This is not good news for the other guys on his ship!!

Further to that bad news

the local Civil Aviation Authority released this Directive

that we shall not be accepting incoming tourist passengers

until the end of JUNE!

Cruise ships oriented to Barbados for now, sitting out the Covid Crisis!

HARMONY of the Seas is here

to facilitate repatriation of some 4,000 crew members

via air, from our island airport, going home to Europe and the Far East

RFA 'Argus' is a Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessel

stationed here for the Hurricane Season, in case

So, where are the ships?  Probably the biggest concentration is in Manila Bay, Philippines.  I just took a look and there are now 29 ships (from many cruise lines) in and around Manila.  Why?  I have no clue.  Some would say they are there because they took crew home, but that does not explain that many vessels.

It would make sense for ships which had taken crew home, and were awaiting future use, to remain in the area to facilitate re-staffing — after all, they would be likely to draw from the same population once they re-manned.   The ships have to hang around somewhere -and a great number of cruise ships are heavily staffed by Filipinos.

Here in Barbados we seem to routinely have 10 or so cruise ships

hanging around -

usually 5 or 6 anchored in the Bay (or in port taking supplies?)

and another 5 or so,  just offshore somewhere, biding time.

AIDAluna has been here SO LONG now, she is a permanent fixture.

- at least 2 months if not more!

How much longer for her to be considered a citizen?  EM
