OBC on cancelled cruise when only deposit made

Hey everyone,  I apologize if this has previously been asked but we are booked on Vista Nov. 21st.  Our final pmt is due Sept 7th. Our question to those who have lived thru this already is, if (as we expect will happen) our cruise is cancelled, will we be offered the $600 OBC if we have only paid our deposit or is the $600 only offered once you have paid your balance in full?  Thank you for your responses!

You will get the OBC when you make a new reservation. We moved the deposit we had on our cancelled cruise and the OBC was noted on our new Confirmation.

I'm in the same boat (pun intended) with an August PANORAMA cruise where I only had paid the deposit. So, I'm quite interested in the answer also.

Yes we only had a deposit sitting on our cruise and did get $600 OBC. Looks great on our new booking! And our first booking, our cancelled cruise, actually was one of those deals where you only had to put down half of a deposit which meant when we made our new booking i had to add some $ to bump it up to a normal deposit. All that to say, YES, got $600 OBC.

So, is this is a good way to game the system ?

you pay a small $100 deposit on a November Cruise which you know will be cancelled, and get a profit of $600 OBC for transferring the small deposit to a new Cruise in 2021, which you have already booked and paid a deposit on ?

 

Won't Carnival ask for the final payment before cancelling a November Cruise?

My Nov 5th cruise has a final payment on Aug 22nd. Hoping to get an official cancel before before the 22nd.

Based on what others have stated it appears possible to “game” the system if your timing is right. I still think this $600 OBC is going to come back to haunt Carnival. No other cruise line is offering anything remotely close. It makes me wonder how desperate is Carnival for cash now that they offer such a large incentive to encourage passengers not to request refunds. I am usually of the belief that Carnival knows what they are doing, but it seems odd they would do something so drastically different than other cruise lines.

Yes you will, that just happened to us we rebooked and got $650 OBC. CARNIVAL WAS GIVING $50 OBC.

$50 on the new cruise, or from the original cruise? Reason I am asking is If they cancel my Nov 5th cruise (which I kinda hope), I would lose $200 OBC, and free drinks in the casino from a promotion. Wouldn't minds stacking the OBCs and get my free drinks on a new cruise

We had our June cruise cancelled. We really cancelled before the final payment date.  We originally put down $200 for four people for a 4 day cruise. I didn't book right away either. A few months later get a call from someone from Carnival, telling me I also had an $300 credit. I wasn't aware of that, I knew I had the 200 for a future cruise credit. 

 

We just got a call last week from Carnival promoting the $50 dollar deposit to book another cruise. We ended up paying $100 to book the two grandkids also. We booked on the Mardi Gras for a 7 day.  I haven't seen my $200 future credit or the $300 onboard credit yet. We just booked yesterday.

It doesn't work like that...You would not carry over the same "perks" unless you book a new cruise with the same "perks"  I had a $150 deposit on Oct. 31st, it cancelled.  It was a 5 day so had a $300 OBC for a future cruise.  I booked Alaska for 10 days, and had to make a new deposit of $400, the $300 is OBC.  The $150 will go toward the final price when they make the adjustment.  I get my $400 deposit as an OBC also.  

 

So, I had to put out yesterday, $400 and will get $700 OBC (remember was originally on a 5 day).  I will get credited off my cruise the original $150 deposit and for some reason...I had an old FCC of $119 that will go toward my final price.  I will get free drinks in the casino & $250 Fun Play in the casino.

I also had a Diamond upgrade I used to move from an Ocean View to a Balcony.  

 

I hope this helps, mine was a casino offer.  The deposit is non-refundable, but I bought trip Insurance...no worries 🙂

Cancelled. Carnival says $600 PER STATEROOM... but would only give me $300 as a solo... but of course, they had charged me the same deposit as 2 people. They also took the free play away when I moved the FCC to the new sailing. Almost as good of a business practice as taking our money in seconds and taking 90 days to give it back.

Cancelled. Carnival says $600 PER STATEROOM... but would only give me $300 as a solo... but of course, they had charged me the same deposit as 2 people. They also took the free play away when I moved the FCC to the new sailing. Almost as good of a business practice as taking our money in seconds and taking 90 days to give it back.

When you want to book any Cruise as a solo, keep the name of the second passenger as TBA or "to be announced".

 

This should be done when the solo rate is twice that of the twin rate, or if a solo has to pay hundred percent more than a twin sharing passenger.

 

 

in that case you will get all the OBC and benefits for the second passenger TBA when The Cruise gets cancelled

Sooo sorry to dredge this old post up, but it I've read conflicting info everywhere and I can't tell what's accurate.  If I book a solo Carnival cruise, and Carnival cancels it, what happens?  Is it true that I have to book it as a double with TBA to get the full credit?  The cruise I'm looking at has an attractive single supplement, but not if I don't get the whole $600 if they cancel...

Oh the obc is per cabin, not per person.  I book solo and get full obc.

 

Full obc for stock or other carnival sales.

 

I took the refund from all but one carnival, but I got full obc for rebooking and spent it already. 

 

Have $50 obc for first leg of breeze coming up from stock.

 

Maybe the question came up because a couple of girls rebooked each with $300 obc and now one wants to no show and other wants her full $600 obc. That's different if 2 were cancelled and rebooked.

 

I'm assuming you were a solo when you got cancelled and rebooked.

I'm not sure what the situation was with KismetzMom in post #18, but I have an incredibly high level of confidence in anything you say, so I'll call it good 😃

 

I think I've read just about every horror story about how the covid policy has fallen for booking with friends (or even family!) and there one thing I'm absolutely confident in is that I won't be booking any pricey cruises on Carnival with anyone but my husband in the cabin with me.  Some of those scenarios are absolute nightmares.  Coupled, solo, or bust!

I've had about 6 cancellations as a solo and received the $600 OBC for each.

 

All my cancellations on other lines had much less generous OBC but the actual FCCs were 125% or 150% of the fare paid.  Some were only deposits; a few were paid-in-full.

 

My favorite was with HAL where I was able to stack three separate FCCs, which brought the fare for a 12-night "Have It All" sailing (drinks, dining, wifi, and grats).  Otherwise, that would've been out of my price range.  I haven't seen any other lines that allow you to stack multiple FCCs.

 

And, totally off topic, my HAL casino offers have been great.  Free inside cabin (you pay $200 and get $200 OBC) with free play and DOU in the casino (but they do NOT allow the SH OBC on the free/deeply-discounted casino fares).  That's after 3 sailings with them.  After 30 sailings on Carnival, I finally got a "free" offer, which I didn't take since the timing conflicted with my HAL bookings.
