Marella v Thomson

Recommended Posts

It was only a change of name, nothing else. Obviously some things change over the years, such as the switch to nothing but all-inclusive and the reduction of courses from five to three on the menu, though you can always order more. Formal nights now a shadow of their former glory, basically ‘dress up a bit if you like‘, but nothing else like a Captain’s party. Newer, bigger ships have come along.

Thanks Pensoncruiser. Have not cruised with them since Thomson Celebration 2008.

Hi L.C

have been on the Discovery,  Explorer, and Dream and found the Marella Discovery is to my liking, it was the first of the Vision class ships to come across to Tui after being with Royal Caribbean for many years and well looked after, it has a lovely atrium, a Mezzanine restaurant one being Italian a running track and many bar,s and loads of room on the sun deck.

Good thing we are all different, we loved Explorer 2 as it felt light and bright. Also loved Discovery 1 (not tried Disco 2).   We found the entertainment very good, although the comedians they brought on were same old, same old.

Can't  wait to get back to a cruise - don't really care where it's going!

We cruised on Thomson Celebration six years ago, since then we have been on Discovery 1 and 2 and also Explorer 1 - we enjoyed our cruise on the Celebration but loved the modern, bigger Discovery ships more. We did a T/A on Explorer 1 and didn't enjoy it as much as the other cruises so decided to give it another try on a "Land of the midnight sun" cruise around Norway - again, we didn't really enjoy it as much as other ships. It's only my personal opinion and I'm sure many people will disagree but the layout and atmosphere of the ship was so different - there was even "quiet time on deck" twice a day plus it was freezing at times which didn't help! 😂
