I think that it's better to say "If people keep a 6' distance, then use a proper mask correct is just added protection".

That is a totally accurate statement.

But, everywhere from the grocery store, to Costco, to airplanes, to a resort like Vegas,,, and yes, a cruise ship, 6' distancing isn't going to happen with the US public, no matter how many dots you put on the floor.

I don't know if you live in a locale that has different social rules, but my 6' boundary is almost continually violated. So, my viewpoint is to mitigate the risk of the un-achieved 6' foot physical distancing by ensuring everyone around me is wearing a mask. If a COVID infected person is properly wearing a mask, the probability of transmission is very low.

I fly a lot and the flight attendants are constantly reminding people about proper mask usage. I when I am on a sold out plane, I wear a N95 mask and follow hand sanitation protocols when removing and putting on the mask. In a hotel room, the mask and anything with the potential of being contaminated stays on one table until they are wiped down and sanitized (the mask just stays on the table). I expect to do the same on my next cruise. For me, it is the new norm and based on the behavior of the US public, it will be the new norm for years to come.

It seems like the people where I live are taking the social distancing good enough because almost noone is using a facemask and since July 25 my part of Sweden ( 300000 people lives here) has had only one person in intensive care one day.

I was on the Bliss and the Escape last year. Even if they reduce the passengers to 3000 i do not no how they can still maintain the things that i love about cruising. The atrium and comedy club are standing room only for shows and bands. You can not find a chair at pool now.The 4 nights of the top shows are are sold out.The specialty dining is all booked by the first day on board. The elevators between 6 pm and 10 pm are a 5/10 minute wait and are all 10 deep with passengers. The main dining rooms are 15/30 minute wait between  6 and 8 pm.If any one has any ideas to help NCL solve these issues please tell us.

IMO it will have no impact, because the rule won't exist. Sailings won't happen until the pandemic is under control with either a vaccine, or naturally dying out so that the social distancing won't be necessary.

I thought you loved all those things about cruising then you said they were issues that need to be solved.  How does the six foot separation fit into all of this?  I’m confused, please provide more detail.

Well dang... cruising is going to happen - is happening in Europe. Will happen here sooner rather than later... JMO and I get to have it!  Whether reality and I agree has no concern to me right now.  Late Feb I will be in the Haven having a wonderful birthday. Masks are optional and distancing will be, well it will be....

For us, we don't want to deal with social distancing and masks.  We will wait for the vaccine and then the cruise lines can require the vaccine prior to boarding.

That requires that the vaccine is 100% reliable. If it is not there will still be either requirement to wear masks or the 6-feet-distance rule.

I can live with a 6-feet-distance rule if the cruiseline can figure out how to do that. In the Haven it's not that difficult but everywhere on the ship?

So,,, an “effective” vaccine of any type only has to have positive results in 50’% of the people who take it.

And a large portion of the IS population couldn't be bother Getting vaccinated.

so, the vaccine is not an end-all cure to the crushing

If a vaccine is required to get on a cruise ship, then the no-vaccinated people won't be a problem.

Yes, vaccine effectiveness may be something like 60-70% or perhaps higher, but scientists have said that a large percentage of the population have natural immunities to COVID-19, especially  for younger people.

Further, unless you have an underlying condition (even at my age-72) like obesity, diabetes, or immune issues, the risk of death is  something like .05%.

The longer the virus is around the more people will have immunity to the disease and coupled with vaccines, some type of herd immunity will allow something approaching normalcy.

Sure, time will tell and perhaps cruise lines will require masks and the 6 ft social distancing, but I won't be cruising in that case.  We like to socialize with friends and we have a group of about a dozen that some of us have done 2, 3 or 4 cruises together.  Also, we make new cruise friends, usually from these boards.  The social distancing and masks along with other restrictions will make it difficult to enjoy cruises.  We will just do our land trips and continue to see the World.

Have already taken some week long getaways to R.I. & Maine & places inbetween . Followed all proper procedures and never saw any real issues. Having just had my yearly physical at my age, as well , 72 , there ain't a thing wrong with me , except being a pain in the butt to my wife !! If I gotta wear a mask in public in a floating petri dish , is that really going to help. Its the mingling that will be missed..

Its not possible to maintain 6 ft even with modifications it isn't possible.   Think about all the times you are packed in.   Embarkation and security screenings, tendering, muster, theater, lines at all bars ` think about the bar at the pool deck at any given moment, debarkation, the crowds in the buffet on embarkation.

Cruising and social distancing mutually exclusive.

i dont even care about 6 ft. i just want a single case of the virus not to cut my trip short. ill cruise when thats the case.

I went to Disney this past October during the pandemic.  Felt very safe with everyone wearing their masks, none of us got sick.  I go to various casinos every weekend, no issues with everyone wearing masks.  I will happily enjoy cruises the same way.

Im going with the assumption that cruise lines will require proof of vaccination to board.   This would be several months away.    By then the death rate will have plummeted because elderly will be vaccinated.

I would think then, with the death rate flattened, and with 100% of passages and crew vaccinated things like 6 ft distance and masks could be forgone.

I don't think there's any chance of sailing before that happened.    The cruise lines aren't going to have crew onboard unvaccinated.   They aren't going to be able to allow for social distancing in gangways, on tenders, in the atriums.    Vaccinating and proof of vaccination will be how it goes.

If everyone including the crew is required to be vaccinated you won't need a 6ft rule. Can you imagine a 6ft rule being in place like the Manhattan or Tampa cruise terminal? They'll need to either cut the amount of Pax in half or use both floors for boarding
