In my humble opinion prior to this pandemic for every passenger who blew past the hand washing stations when entering the Horizon court or hand sanitizer at the main dining room, proclaimed they paid for that cruise and are entitled to come aboard sick or not, coughed uncontrollably during a live show in the Princess theatre or simply ignored basic hygiene practices while onboard, there were probably at least ten who were frustrated or disgusted by said passengers conduct but tolerated it vs confront the passenger and disrupt their peaceful getaway.
With all we’ve gone through over the last several months I’d guess that ratio will now be closer to 100 to 1 and those 100 will be far less tolerant of those who don’t take protocols intended to ensure everyone’s safety seriously. The cruise lines will be forced to deal with these individuals imo if they want to get those 100 to cruise again. 
So if being held to a sanitary standard or responsible hygiene expectations after this pandemic while they are in large groups of people makes someone feel like their in a “concentration camp” then I dare say they probably shouldn’t be cruising at least in the near future. I sure don’t want to be around them in tight quarters.

Besides the obvious precautions we are all taking now such as masks, social distancing when possible and others things that may be needed in order to restart cruising again I’d like to see:
 

Princess:

- Develop effective health screening for passenger and crew at embarkation (not just for the virus but other illnesses such the awful crud that so many catch during voyages of the past) 

- Strictly enforce reasonable and prudent hygiene standards for passengers entering restaurants particularly buffets (assuming buffets survive this) rather than simply suggesting people wash hands before entering but allowing many to enter without doing so
- Remove passengers from venues such as shows who appear to be displaying symptoms of an illness and quarantine 

- Ban passengers who refuse to follow guidelines that are implemented to keep passengers from this and future outbreaks of others such as violating quarantine or not using posted measures when boarding or entering venues 

- Ban passengers who attempt to hide sickness but are determined to be sick during boarding process 

- Ban passengers found to be sick while onboard but have not reported to medical staff

 

Passengers 
- Do not attempt to travel with others when sick 

- Act responsibly and follow common sense practices that prevent spreading this or other illnesses such as coughing openly around others and maintaining good hygiene 

-  Do not scoff at others/staff or make a scene/excuse when asked to follow guidance such as washing hands or using hand sanitizer etc

-  Report to onboard medical facility when exhibiting symptoms if any illness 

 

Any opinions or other things you want to see once we are back cruising again?

 

Tours...passengers only allowed of the ship on a Princess arranged tour & not allowed to wonder away from your tour group except to use the bathroom.

In one sense I find this encouraging. While I wouldn’t like this restriction when we sail next time it shows me they are taking hard looks at all the ways passengers might contract the virus In today’s reality. I mean until proven vaccines are widely available and utilized or the virus somehow disappears they are going to have to do everything in their power to prevent an outbreak onboard a ship. A single such occurrence during the first few sailings would likely doom the industry. As time passes and they can demonstrate it’s possible to travel this way without having outbreaks they’ll learn what might be relaxed or modified to make it an experience closer to what we all knew and loved before this pandemic. Until then they likely just want to get the ships underway again with modest revenue flowing again without making the news in a negative way. We have to crawl before we learn to walk again.

FYI....There are a couple of cruise lines with strict requirements & no outbreaks of COVID-19. On one cruise in Italy a family of 5 was denied boarding & removed from the ship when returning from a tour because they left the tour group.

I would like to add that the tour restrictions was also a requirement of the ports that they visited.

The best of testing cannot determine if a person has the virus within 24-48 hours of being infected. And by the time any retesting on board finds any such people, they will have had a chance to spread it to others.

 

And since no vaccine is 100% effective, that spread could infect someone who has been vaccinated.

 

It will be very difficult to make sure nobody on a cruise ship is infected.

That's kind of my point, Tom. I do not wish to cruse with "strict requirements". Nor do I wish to cruise with 1,400 new friends who cannot reliably follow the strict requirements!

I was on the new Sky Oct 2020 on her first 2 weeks in the Med.  The first week when fine, the second the noris virus break out on the very brand new ship.  There were sanitize stations out the buffet, dining room, and theater.  I used the station whenever I saw one.  Many people just walked pass it into the theater or the bathrooms are outside the buffet, they would say I just washed in the bathroom.

 

They sanitized after each show in the theater, they went on the excursion coaches and tenders to sanitize,
 

They should have a crew member beside each station telling people to use.

Lazz,  I think everything from cruising, to flying, to driving to vacation spots is a work in progress.  Things change weekly depending on how the different states are doing with Covid outbreaks.  I personally am not going to worry or make a decision until at least January.  I do have a cruise booked for Oct 2021;  and let's see if that cruise goes.  Have a great Labor Day

I miss cruising terribly. We have been extremely careful since March. I feel like a mole. I will follow all rules if it means sitting on my balcony , looking at the ocean, having someone prepare my meals, do my laundry and take me to different places everyday. I am cooked out and tired . We always took the cruise excursions because we didn’t want to worry about missed connections and missing the ship. They were always fine and sometimes great. We used the medical center if we needed it. Too much sun paired with rum punch =shot for dehydration. Cruising may no longer be for everyone . We stay on board in the Caribbean because after 32 cruises on Princess alone we are there to flee the winter weather. I had a conversation with an old friend who never gets a flu shot or pneumonia shot and didn’t get a DPT booster when her grandchild was born. Sorry but I’m a big believer in Science. We will wear masks to the dining room and take them off while seated like we do when we go to local restaurants. We might see more dining outside on ships. I will be happy to cruise with like minds. To each their own. I have friends who rent RVs for vacation. Not for me.

Hubby and I don’t mind some of the changes—never ate at the buffet because people couldn’t behave, not big fans of crowded venues, etc. We wear our masks, socially distance and wash frequently. So, if we cruise, we will abide by the policies we agreed to before boarding.

 

I’ll be curious to see how Princess deals with people who don’t comply with new safety measures.  For a perspective, oldest daughter works in the legal department of a major entertainment company.  Since reopening parks, stores and restaurants, there have been a number of folks who have been banned for life for certain behavior (ie not complying with safety protocols on their private property, physical interactions with security/staff).  That’s in addition to thousands of guests who have been escorted off premises for not wearing a mask, eating/drinking, etc.  Front line workers have been instructed to call management and security  when dealing with guests who won’t follow protocols.  Zero tolerance.  (I personally saw an instance in SoCal where a guest refused to wear a mask.  Escorted out, the crowd cheered.)

 

When you get onboard a ship, you agree to adhere to all policies.  Interesting to see how 
Princess will enforce them in the middle of the sea!

I dont understand all the fears really. I mean its a bit of an irregular flue, nothing more. I even think that the problem was overhyped cause there are people dying of regular flue everyday (even more people that from covid these days). I mean I can certainly understand that it would be much safer to travel knowing there is a vaccine, but if you are really that scared of catching it, just stay at  home and wait for a mass vaccination

The pictures are from Princess the rest is all fake. If you look at the Princess website you will see that there every question says we will look into these things and make policies later.  Look at the Q and A
