What is your favorite activity on a cruise ship that is rarely discussed on a CC thread ?

Mine is shuffleboard.

Another shuffleboard fan, but my absolute favourite is to sit doing nothing but holding hands and catching up on life with the one I love.

Correct -- but on a cruise you do not need to cook the bacon yourself.

The problem, however, seems to be the fact that, while bacon and honey are generally available at the breakfast buffet (and even in the MDR), too often peanut butter is not out until lunchtime.   In our household, of course, all such essential nutrients are ALWAYS on hand.

Peanut Butter...no problem...ask a wait staff...easy peasy for them to get you some.

That sounds GREAT! But no need to wait to cruise.

I mean, I am very sorry guys but breakfast was always my favorite part on board the cruiser. Ocean\sea breeze, some fresh coffee and peanut butter sandwich, omg.. like as if there could be something more delicious than that. Dining time is always like the best time out there. Not the pool or casino - food

Hula lessons each sea day of a Hawaii cruise.  We gave a presentation on the last day, along with the many passengers who had learned ukelele.  At the end, one of the ukelele players took the mic, got down on one (arthritic) knee, and asked the lady next to him to marry him.  She said yes.  The crowd went wild.

We used to enjoy spending a bit of time in the evening playing board games or doing jigsaw puzzles with other passengers, when we were all in formal wear.  Quirky fun.

A fun group playing LCR ( left, right, center ) for a couple of hours on sea days.

For a couple of years I saved all my dimes, in a little pouch, for LCR on cruises.  Now I carry that pouch to the stores we frequent and ask if they need some for the cash register.  They often do.

Rarely discussed: Connecting with other passengers to play a game (not organized by the ship/cruise).

We always pack a deck of Uno cards, and play anywhere we're standing/sitting around.  You'd be surprised at how many people will join in for a hand.

On one of the private islands, hoping for the rain to stop (it never did), we spent the day in one of the dining areas close to the buffet playing with 'everyone'.  Our tin of cards has at least 5 or 6 decks that have been added over the years, to it's easy to split off a chunk to have 2 or 3 games going at the same time.  At one point, we had 16 players across 3 tables... people would jump in for a game, or stay for an hour.

We did find it important, tho, to clarify 'house rules', like how many you draw if you don't have a play, and other variations like trading hands, passing cards, etc.  It was an altogether lovely day, despite the monsoon.

Have only seen it on NCL, but making balloon animals was fun & I'd do it again  :-}

A passenger on one cruise made balloon animals and hats... he brought a whole bag of balloons and a syringe looking thing to inflate them.  He was just idly making them for kids in the atrium before one of the game/events... and ended up making some HUGE hats.  We definitely 'bought' them for a few bucks, and wore them the rest of the day, all over the ship.

The artist was definitely NOT part of the crew or entertainment staff, it was just something he enjoyed.  I think he made some cash working parties or events at home.  He never asked for money, but accepted a few bucks when we 'insisted'.

This was a ship activity.  Part of the fun was hearing every "pop" followed by a "gasp"!

Here's the big screen event welcome.

That is a very beauriful statement.👍

Just a fact, we both have lead somewhat frantic life’s (mine has slowed considerably) and the opportunity to just sit and catch up on things we haven’t talked about, or even just sit quietly enjoying each other’s company is wonderful, fortunately after about 40 years together we still mostly enjoy each other’s company.

A few years ago we did a 35 night cruise, longest holiday we have ever had (indeed we went 18 years with nothing more than the odd weekend away) and I can;t tell you how many times one of us said “oh I think I forgot to tell you a few months back that ...”

Fun!

The specific day/young person I'm describing was not sponsored or organized by the ship (it was years ago, and I can't remember the specific ship... maybe Princess?)  Perhaps he was the inspiration for later organized events?  I've organized Vacation Bible School activities, and am always on the look-out for cheap activities that are appealing to guests of all ages and easily expand to include lots of participants.  Anyway, glad you have fond memories of squeaky balloons, too!

For me, it's room service breakfast on my balcony, especially on sea days.

😀😀😀

I put my breakfast order on my bedroom's door knob at home.  Nothing happens.  I end up toasting my English Muffins myself, pouring my own Orange Juice, and fixing my coffee.

Room Service breakfast is a luxury for this cruiser!

Without being a "party pooper" I imagine that balloon art wouldn't be allowed these days.  Balloons are a big " No, No" for obvious environmental reasons.

Huh? What in the world are you talking about?  Releasing helium filled balloons out doors is considered an environmental hazard.  But balloon art? Indoors?
