Bit of history on Celebrity..

Chandris Group (1988-1997)Edit

Celebrity Cruises was founded in April 1988 as a subsidiary of the Greece-based Chandris Group to operate upmarket cruise ships to Bermuda.[4][5] Chandris had been involved in cruise traffic since the 1960s,[3] and during the late 1980s the company operated in the United States market under the brand name Chandris Cruises.

Thanks David, I’m not up with Celebrity a lot ,only a couple of cruises.

Maybe if there’s some of you cheer leaders might like to add your experience.

I heard that RC is going to release a revised early 2021 season with short cruises out of selected ports.

They released a draft on the press centre but took it down for more.

Let hope there’s a Australian one.

We were planning a trip to Europe next year but someone mentioned a virus.

We planned flighing to Venice and a cruise from there and then after a train trip around the alps catching up with Celebrity edge.

ALL. FEMALE STAFF.
I was hoping to get thrown into the naughty room for some discipline. LOL

Celebrity have 2 Edge class ,  Edge and Apex and a third called Beyond which has only just started being built.

Apex is finished  but has nowhere to go ,it’s anchored of the ship yard in France.

 Beautiful ships

I have only done a couple of Celebrity cruises but have been very happy with the product. What could they do to attract MORE of my business in Australia

1. Aus$

2. More variety in itineraries, including some longer cruises, a year or so ago I think about 80% of their cruises were one way (that may have been the timing I was looking at)

3. Probably relates to 2, but more ships here.

My first trip overseas from Sydney to Southhampton was on Chandris's Queen Frederica (section of their world cruise).  My last NZ cruise was from Auckland to Sydney on Celebrity Cruises' Century.  I didn't realise Celebrity was a subsidiary of Chandris Group.

That’s where Celebrity’s X came from

I haven’t much to do with them GUT ,from what I’m told they are only a shadow of what they used to be ,in the way of being upmarket. The food isn’t what it used to be ,but then it’s all americanised mass market.

I’m told they aren’t much different to Royal ,just aimed at a mature market with a higher price.

I have only done 1 Celebrity cruise, on Celebrity Solstice, some 6 years ago, NZ run,  nice ship, cabins good with great bathrooms, however the food and service and entertainment were overrated,  ok but not overly impressed.  One good thing about Celebrity these days..no silly formal nights, no jackets and ties etc such attire I am not fond of.

Perhaps Chili could come back as her cat.   I am sure I read in the last couple of years that Captain Kate had her cat on board.

Actually price was pretty on par with Royal Caribbean but to be totally candid I haven’t noticed a lot of difference between any of the lines I have sailed with in terms of food entertainment etc, even price is pretty much the same, save NCL was a tad higher and Cunard a bit more again, on a per person per day basis on similar itineraries. I would make the same observations about RCCL as I did about Celebrity.

I think quality on all lines has slipped a bit over the 20 some years I have been cruising, but then prices have remained pretty much the same or maybe even dropped slightly over the same period. For example our cruise with Princess last December was 50 dollars less than out first cruise with them about 20 years ago for the identical itinerary.

probably the biggest fall I have noted is in minor areas of service, when we started cruising we were escorted to our cabin on embarking, there was someone manning the lift first and last day minor things like that.

So this is how TUI are doing the buffet.

You wash your hands, sanitize you hands and then you are led to a table by a member of the crew.

Once you’re given a table you can pick the food and it will be put on a plate and handed to you. They won’t put food on a plate a second time once you have touched it.

A mask must be worn and can only be removed for eating.

Agree a lot of things which made cruising special have gone.  It is the little things which make the difference,   My daughters were asked at an interview for a 5 star hotel, what makes a hotel 5 star.  One said high standard of service, etc., whilst the other said the impression in the sand in the stands where guests put out their cigarettes. Both got offered a job!

These regulations on board seem just fine to me. I always sintezie my hands when I leave home and enter a supermarket or a mall. So it will make no difference really. Moreover, people will appreciate the fact that their freedom is not prohibited in any way but rather taken care of. So yes, I totally accept all these new buffet regulations

I see the Brisbane Ports have removed Radiance of the Seas from the shipping schedule for 2021/22 and put in Quantum of the Seas in her place.

And some people on the TP Hawaii to Sydney are saying the QOS cruise has been shortened taking out NZ stops and arriving into Brisbane instead of Sydney. I can't see that cruise on the Royal website. Both QOS and ROS cruises for 21/22 are still the same on the website.

Who knows what is up and no doubt it could be something and could be nothing. Time will tell.

Perhaps they know NZ ports will not re open for a long time.
