I agree that they can be enjoyable. However the OP is insisting that they are the same as the real thing, which is ludicrous.

Nothing that I said is ludicrous. You read what I post but read what you want to read.

I will attempt to explain in siimpler wording.Yes,you cannot taste the food but if you use your imagination you can “taste” the food. If you saw my reference to the great Spanish film maker and have seen his movies you will be able to understand what I am saying.

As of now my cruising days are over but I still hope for a medical miracle .Several doctors have told me there is nothing that can be done for me.I have an I appointment next week with a doctor who treats people who have been told there is no hope for them.
I researched him .He has more positive patient reviews than anyone I have checked on.

My best wishes for you.  Not knowing what you believe in the power of prayer, I have learned that prayer does work.  It's results are not sudden.  They "sneak" up on one.  At least for me.  But, the results are real.  God Bless You, Sir!

It would not be for me.

I have a good imagination, but it is still no substitute for the real thing. I've done virtual tours at some ancient Roman sites -- they "reconstruct" the rooms and you walk through them as they would have been (based on analysis of ancient paint colors, sculptural elements, etc.)  I have never found them very fulfilling.

Good summary - while the visuals may be well reproduced there are other sensory inputs needed. Seeing the sun’s glow on a wall -  even just feeling that you are in the same spot where the original makers and users of that wall stood is a vital element.  When it comes to a cruise (on topic) there are elements which cannot be transmitted virtually. The smell/sound of the sea, the motion - of the sea and the ship’s own subtle pulse - too many bits to list are vital to the experience.

That's my feeling as well.  There is a sensory component that is missing in any virtual experience.  I have participated in a few of these virtual meetings and even an Alumni Happy Hour for my Alma Mater.  It's better than nothing, but it is not the same as the actual event.

My college reunion which was supposed to be this year,as was yours will be next year and it may be a Zoom if things do not improve.

Well,  maybe not the same but I think there are some silver linings.  At least on a VR cruise I wouldn't have to bear with some egocentric old windbags.  Or, at least I could push them over the railing.   😄

Hopefully that would not be me as I cannot swim.

The famous Butch Cassidy quote immediately sprang to mind.

My wife and I saw that film about 25 times,we have a VHS copy and we did our own version of the movie, with nobody around as Munchy Muenster and the Pot Cheese kid.

Many of the things attributed to Butch and Sundance were not true according to Etta Place.

My thinking that in the not too far distant future cruise lines will be offering Virtual cruises with everything that a real cruise could offer.

If this should come to be ,would you do one ?

You mean like virtual sex, LOL

You Tube has many available already. Bring your own Bottle and Buffet.

Like pornhub?

Sadly virtual or zoom is very unsatisfying as seeing / touching / smelling and experiencing with your own eyes.  It's a premise for many a scifi book the struggle between alternative reality versus living a real life full of pain/struggle and real joy, I'll take the later with a "real" cruise sometime in 2022, LOL

I’ll push a door your way, remember it’s big enough for two people.

Cue:  My Heart Will Go On Forever

Either Celine Dion's or Sarah Brightman's renditions will do.

Did you see virtual reality movies in the 70’s ? That is my point of reference.

Did you ever see any movies directed by Guillermo del Toro ? He is considered to be among the great Directors of all time. Most of his films are about an interaction between imagination and  reality.

You mean like that virtual vacation company in “Total Recall”?   If you could preselect the virtual entertainers and your virtual table mates as well as the virtual itinerary, you might have something there - still not for me.

You are entitled to your opinion which is because we live in a great country.

One vote for Sarah Brightman

I prefer Sarah's renditions as well.  I have a couple of her performances of this song in my Favorites file.

I wonder what has happened to her?  Have not heard anything about her for some time.  (I know--don't remind me--Google is my friend!)
