We had rather an unusual visitor yesterday at a picnic held in a bush-like park

I just started playing with stacking exposures, and the moon was right there.

Disclosure: I am not a professional photographer nor have I ever claimed to be. I take photos because I really, really enjoy taking photos. That said, sometimes the confluence of subject, light and the lucky fortune that I was there with camera in hand produces a photo that leads me say "hmmmmm...maybe I should". Luckily, within a short span, I  come to my senses and return to the mindset of happy hobbyist and just smile at the photo that triggered the momentary desire to monetize my favorite pastime. This year has had limited potential as far as producing the kind of circumstance leading to a “hmmmm...” photo, but this week fate, a photo project for my daughter and a stunningly cute granddaughter made me pause...for a minute.

Fall.

Though still stunningly hot and humid, the light in the wetlands has been getting nicer and warmer, in between thunderstorms...and we're getting into that time of year when more birds start to migrate through or come down for winter.  Saturday's visit to the wetlands was a very nice day with some good birds and action...

 

Starting with this green iguana going out on a limb.  On the extremely rare 'cool' days we might get in South Florida, when temps might touch into the 40s, they'll issue 'falling iguana' alerts on the weather report as the cold-blooded tropical animals aren't fond of the cold:

 

Closeup staredown with a pig frog...they're just so grumpy cute:

 

The lovely, amazing, colorful roseate spoonbills were really standing out with the nice still waters, reflecting a clear blue sky...and the pink bird of course:

 

Not wanting to be outdone by the showy pink bird, the grey-headed swamphen standing on a root nearby decided to stretch his wings and show off his purple, blue, and red colors:

 

A red-shouldered hawk swooped down on some sandpipers below, who all scurried away:

 

The hawk then continued on its way, flying right past me:

It's actually kind of interesting as there's a lot less color about 60 miles north of my other picture.

Ah, fall colors! I love Southern California when the fall colors are at their peak!

Was up on Skyline Drive this past Saturday trying to take a sunset timelapse.  The clouds were not cooperating as the sun began to set the clouds descended to below my elevation, but I did get this one.

Finally took the camera out of the bag after almost 3 months.  Photos of our spring visitors in southern Australia, all the way from Siberia.

 These are red-necked stints.  Plus a lovely photo of why the camera has been away (C3-7 cervical laminectomy).
