The while-we-wait-for-river-cruises photo quiz

Recommended Posts

Oh, yeah, steampunk!  Red tiles as pavement? Definitely Netherlands! I reckon a museum, perhaps natural history. No idea where.

Right, need to do some work.

Interesting - had not heard the term steampunk. Looked it up and learned something new in the process.

I've actually visited this museum (although I favor its sister in St. Petersburg 😉). I don't recall seeing these sculptures.

Yes, the Hermitage in Amsterdam.   This visit was in 2018 and the sculptures may not have been permanent.

Wild card!

I had no idea this museum existed. It was the obvious clue from @dogs4fun provided.

Ok, have scraped up a photo so will claim the wildcard.

Name the town, river & structure on which this little critter is located.

Those who have visited will recognize it immediately - the guides usually point it out or someone in the group inquires about it. 😏

It's not the dog on the pulpit in Strasbourg Cathedral---I've already used that one for an earlier quiz!!

Right - not Strasbourg

I also thought the Rhine was most likely due to the red sandstone. A church or cathedral probably, with some netting and wire against pigeons.

Yes - a cathedral/church

Can we guess the breed instead? 🙂

A simple Google search that includes the breed gives you the answer. 😁

Try breed + type of structure + river & VIOLA - you have the answer. You can also read about the significance of the little guy (who had a sad ending).

Let me guess, How many churches/cathedrals are there along the Rhine River. Way too many, I go with @Coraland try to guess the dog breed 🙂.

There is a famous epic poem associated with this city Theo. Siegfried the Dragon Slayer features prominently. 😄

Ah, Siegfried of Nibelungen fame. And Hagen who threw the gold into the Rhine - people are still looking for it. Seriously, although it is a legend (or is it...?).

That’s the one. 😅 Course I prefer Wagner’s musical version.

You shouldn't have said that. Now I will go to bed with the Ride of the Valkyries going round in my head. 'Laugh'.

Epic!

OMG, I should have known this. Our granddaughter danced to the "Ride of the Valkyries"  5 years ago in a dance competition in Vienna and won first price in her age group (6 to 8).

Wow - is your granddaughter into ballet?

So, what is the name of the city and cathedral? Give us their names & then over to you.
