Anhalter1960 that’s what I thought but cannot discover a particular city. It’s also the year  1797 that the Polish national anthem was written. It’s got to something to do with the Napoleonic wars but what? Note to self, as usual ‘more research needed’. CA

As it is the Baltic that would mean a connection to a river East of the Elbe, the Oder seems even a bit too near still. Pomerania? Königsberg? The Newa? Alas, no time to do research.

It is not a monument, it is a mural inside a famous building.

You are correct. It is a mural donated by Wilhelm Krause in 1814. Here is an other uncropped version, (the lady in the picture is my DW 🥰). 

 

We went inside to hear the "Bach Choir", which we thought was performing as per poster, but our German is not what it used to be we realized it was that, a poster.

Enjoyed the exhibition inside very much though.

Just noticed my DW jewelry box has some wood inlay. As you mentioned that the picture is heavily cropped maybe this is a famous jewelry box. Still no idea where it might be though.

Notamermaid has the right country. It does look like a piece of Treen but yes it’s a floor so scaled up just a bit. CA

That really was a shot in the dark based on the outer design (border?) of the floor. No idea why I thought that this looks Portuguese. And no clue where it may be. Probably something with the word palácio in it...

The pictured floor submitted by CA can be found in a palace in Porto. I won't say the name of the palace (or the river) but it should be easy to find with a simple Google search. 😉

That was my guess. We snuck in just before closing time to take a quick look, and only had a few minutes. The floors were mostly covered up as there was some kind of big trade show. What we saw was pretty. But we concentrated on the beautiful ceilings. Do you sense a theme here?
