coevan Posted October 9, 2020 #6 Share Posted October 9, 2020 Cruising is up to the cruise lines, not the White House. 5
Cruiseboy06 Posted October 9, 2020 #7 Share Posted October 9, 2020 The CDC still could extend the no sail order.... No way the cruise lines aka Carnival will be ready by Nov 1st.. 3

What type of insider information do you have as an employee of Carnival to suggest the cruise line will not be ready on November 1 for a return to cruising on a limited number of ships from a limited number of ports? Curious.

You are right and I agree with you 100 percent. If you do not feel safe sailing then you should definitely without a doubt stay home, for the rest of us bon voyage.

Rare jimbo5544 Posted October 10, 2020 #14 Share Posted October 10, 2020 Be interesting to see what happens. Politics aside, there is and has been significant evidence that if done right, cruising can work. The cruise industry has submitted a comprehensive plan to mitigate the virus. Cruising in Europe has PROVEN that a plan can work, IF the WH says go, the CDC will capitulate.

It sounds like the CDC still has the control of decisions of no sail orders, maybe getting reviewed by the White House's task force.

I’m still curious what insider information you have as a Carnival employee to suggest we won’t be able to cruise in November. You keep saying we won’t but the cruise line is saying we will. November is right around the corner. Thanks, X
Trueblueky Posted October 10, 2020 #21 Share Posted October 10, 2020 Lots of people who can say no. CLIA, I think CDC for ships leaving US ports Probably some other US agencies (DOT?) Foreign ports, some of which have not approved the return of cruise ships

chengkp75 Posted October 10, 2020 #23 Share Posted October 10, 2020 (edited) Sounds like a lot of nothing being said. Noticed that HHS and CDC mentioned that the cruise lines would have to "backstop" their operations, which I take to mean still requiring private health care, transportation services, and quarantine facilities on shore, which has been the major sticking point all along. Very funny that Pence mentioned the goal of "reopening the maritime economy", when it has never been shut down, only the 5% of the industry represented by the cruise industry. Goes to show how aware he is of maritime issues. And, the cruise line executives stressed that their initiatives will keep cruise ship passengers in a "safe and healthy environment", but don't mention anything about dealing with further spread to the general population from a ship. I also don't see anywhere where Pence overruled the CDC guidelines, he merely thanked the cruise lines for submitting their advisory board's report.
