G’day so,ton saint.  Great post but you may consider posting under the Australia and New Zealand thread as you will probably get many more responses.

 

They were revolutionary ships in their design with Southern Cross going on to a lengthy career however Northern Star had major problems with her engines which shortened her career drastically.

They were pretty awful as a 7yo - on the Southern Cross in 1970 from Southampton to Wellington - ttook about 6 weeks? One pool right at the bottom of the ship, nothing for kids to do except hit all the buttons on the lift and run away - kids weren't allowed in the lifts. Both my mother and my 3 yo brother got incredibly ill from gastro. 

 

Put me off ships for a very long time
