FLL or MIA for POM

Is FLL still the preferred airport for the POM?

Have Credit with AA for cancellations and MIA is a few hundred less then FLL.

MIA is the easiest airport for POM - a 15 minute cab ride from MIA will get you to your hotel for about $25-30 (just under $20 in Uber or Lyft). 

 

Many POM cruisers choose FLL for the airfare savings.  The ride from FLL to downtown Miami hotels will take 35-45+ minutes and will cost about $70-75+ in a cab or about 1/2 that in UberX or Lyft.

 

Post cruise a taxi (flat rate fare - ignore the meter) used to be $28+tip; there will be a line of taxis waiting.  Check the current flat rate fare for when you cruise.  Good luck and have a great cruise! 😎

We always like to position our night prior to the cruise as close as possible to the port. For us, more peace of mind and minimizes unexpected delays when staying further away.

Not sure where the idea comes that FLL is the preferred airport for PortMiami. MIA is much closer, but FLL is not terribly far. Transport is closer ( and thus cheaper) from MIA.

FLL is preferred by many because of the "Southwest" effect on air fare, and as you note the transport from FLL to Miami is not that challenging.

The Southwest Air impact on Miami air fares may be around for a while.  The airline needs to break into this new for them market.

 

Southwest is also offering some flights from Houston's Bush Intercontinental, Chicago's O'Hare, etc to put pressure on the major carriers on their home turf.  They're not abandoning their second tier airports (Hobby, Midway, etc) however.

I would much rather fly in and out of MIA and I live ten minutes from FLL.  FLL has turned into a giant PIA.

I’m glad I came on here to research FLL! I just wanted a change of scenery from downtown Miami and thought FLL might be a place to spend the night! I’d much rather avoid the PIA of FLL!
