CLIA: All Cruises Cancelled For Remainder Of 2020

WASHINGTON, DC (Nov. 3, 2020)—Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), which represents 95% of global ocean-going cruise capacity, announced today that its members would maintain the ongoing voluntary suspension of cruise operations in the U.S. through December 31, 2020, and that its members will use the remainder of the year to prepare for the implementation of extensive measures to address COVID-19 safety with the guidance of outside public health experts and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Got notice today of my Dec 19 2020 cruise is cancelled. No extra credit even though it was paid in full with FCC's which is why. Good will should have at least offered $100 OBC but didn't.

It would be nice if they actually said implementation of extensive measures in line with the CDC order, instead of wording it like the points in the order are negotiable.

Cruise Lines have not sailed since March.  Where the heck do you think they are going to get your Good Will Money?

OBC is not cash money and when spent onboard is less then full value taking their mark up into account. If paid in other then FCCs  they offered 125%.

No one really expected these to go. I don't think they need to offer anything. I think they should have cancelled it sooner though. I doubt people made any non-refundable reservations.

IMHO although the current framework is technically an 'order' per se, but generally a framework is a declaration of goals and indicates broad suggestions as to how to reach said goals.  Unlike the Government, the cruise lines cannot print money and I don't see them offering any grants or loans to facilitate the process.  There is a finite number of dollars each cruise line has to work with.  Careful examination of the framework and working out the most cost effective means of meeting the framework goals will require a certain amount of adaptation.  The CDC is stating what they want to see done but not ordering how it is done just as long as it gets done.  I don't see CLIA's response to be a negotiation as much as a statement that they want to develop their own procedures in consultation with the CDC.  I think they are merely looking to devise policies and procedures that the CLIA members and the CDC can live with.
