Queen Elizabeth is the best hotel in Montreal in my opinion.

That is my recommendation as well.  Well located, connected to the subway walkway system, plenty of dining opportunities around the hotel, excellent and friendly service, and very comfortable rooms.

If you've got the budget for it, the Queen Lizzie is a great hotel - if you're looking for nice-but-not-too-spendy, the Springhill Suites has a great location in Old Montreal that's even walkable to the pier for your cruise (watch out for cobbles with tiny suitcase wheels though...)

Looking for a nice hotel . Any suggestions?

Also second the Queen Elizabeth-- great location and I have taken the train from New York a few times and nothing is better than getting off at the station and taking an elevator up to the hotel.

The Ritz Carlton has also gone through an amazing renovation and would be a great place as well if you had the budget. It was a bit dowdy for a while but is now excellent.
