United airlines trying to open up New York to London

The tabloids for sure aren't on that list and the Daily Mail is right up there with the National Enquirer.

Personally, I stick with New York Times, Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post (and BBC news when I want a British perspective) when I'm checking out articles on Google. Even then I am apt to look for a first hand source just to confirm information.

Here is what the Washington post says about the London-Newark corridor: https://www.washingtonpost.com/transportation/2020/10/29/united-offers-free-covid-tests-international/

The United website doesn't say anything about it and even then I am leery because it runs a banner trying to convince us that air travel is safe.

So true, I also don't have a high regard for the tabloid paper Daily Mail and since they don't like advert blockers, I can't access them, even if I wanted.

I use BBC & CBC, which are both saved in my Google home page and for world TV news, my preferences are BBC1, BBC World Service and Sky News, which I receive through IPTV.

With the current surge of cases both in the US and Europe, I just don't see any relaxing of travel restrictions and establishment of 'air bridges' in the near term.  Optimistically, perhaps we'll see some loosening of restrictions in the first quarter of 2021 if the hoped-for vaccines start to be administered and transmission rates decrease.

We are able to go to Hawaii next month with a 72 hour of arrival or boarding negative corona test.  https://www.gohawaii.com/travel-requirements  Can go to a local drug store to do the test.  Getting it done is going to be a bit of a challenge.

A couple of friends did Portland to Seattle to Hawaii trip because Seattle has next day results.  Clinic is right by Seatac.

Does not seem impossible that they could work out some thing like that in the future in Europe????  Will they do it... Good question?

I am glad that you are going to get away to Hawaii, but maybe I'm missing something.  If the rough incubation time of carriers is 14 days, then how does a 72 hour negative test prove anything?   It seems more realistic that people would need to hole up for 2 weeks in a hotel or something (like they do in Australia) ahead of their flights.    But, money (revenue) talks.

Make sure you go to a "trusted partner" on their list. We've had people show up with tests from other labs only to find themselves stuck in a hotel room for 14 days. Even had a guy show up with a test from the VA last week after being assured by the nurse that did his test that it wouldn't be a problem. Keep checking the list, though, because providers are being added all the time.

Looks like Costco just started selling a kit that they say is a trusted partner for Hawaii.  Have you heard any thing about it?   https://www.costco.com/covid-19-saliva-pcr-test-kit-with-video-observation-for-travel.product.100714933.html

I hadn't heard about it, but the information on the Costco page says it's approved and, even better, the Hawaii Department of Health has it on their approved list.

I took a quick look at United Air's website for flights Newark to London.  Mid-December. Looks like they have a single 787 Dreamliner on direct, but two code shares.  One with Lufthansa (via Frankfurt) and the other with Air Canada (via Toronto).

Thanks so much Pete. Another trip my wife had made for us before she died. If things work out I can get each kid on a trip.  Just not going by myself.

Update right now. I know Kauai just opted out of accepting the pre-test (yes, they can do that). I guess the best advise is check the Hawaii website regularly. We don't expect much to open up before next summer, to be safe.
