Porcupine 52 Posted November 16, 2020 Author #3 Share Posted November 16, 2020 So I wonder where you get accurate news today in a world that changes every 15 minutes?
Peregrina651 Posted November 16, 2020 #4 Share Posted November 16, 2020 The tabloids for sure aren't on that list and the Daily Mail is right up there with the National Enquirer. Personally, I stick with New York Times, Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post (and BBC news when I want a British perspective) when I'm checking out articles on Google. Even then I am apt to look for a first hand source just to confirm information. Here is what the Washington post says about the London-Newark corridor: https://www.washingtonpost.com/transportation/2020/10/29/united-offers-free-covid-tests-international/ The United website doesn't say anything about it and even then I am leery because it runs a banner trying to convince us that air travel is safe. So true, I also don't have a high regard for the tabloid paper Daily Mail and since they don't like advert blockers, I can't access them, even if I wanted. I use BBC & CBC, which are both saved in my Google home page and for world TV news, my preferences are BBC1, BBC World Service and Sky News, which I receive through IPTV. RJ2002 Posted November 16, 2020 #6 Share Posted November 16, 2020 With the current surge of cases both in the US and Europe, I just don't see any relaxing of travel restrictions and establishment of 'air bridges' in the near term. Optimistically, perhaps we'll see some loosening of restrictions in the first quarter of 2021 if the hoped-for vaccines start to be administered and transmission rates decrease. Porcupine 52 Posted November 17, 2020 Author #8 Share Posted November 17, 2020 We are able to go to Hawaii next month with a 72 hour of arrival or boarding negative corona test. https://www.gohawaii.com/travel-requirements Can go to a local drug store to do the test. Getting it done is going to be a bit of a challenge. A couple of friends did Portland to Seattle to Hawaii trip because Seattle has next day results. Clinic is right by Seatac. https://www.alaskaair.com/content/next-level-care/covid-testing Does not seem impossible that they could work out some thing like that in the future in Europe???? Will they do it... Good question?
Hockeyump Posted November 17, 2020 #9 Share Posted November 17, 2020 Apparently the United flight arrived with 26 passengers with 1 denied boarding as they tested positive in the pre-flight test. Reported by a reputable UK source.

If the rough incubation time of carriers is 14 days, then how does a 72 hour negative test prove anything? It seems more realistic that people would need to hole up for 2 weeks in a hotel or something (like they do in Australia) ahead of their flights. But, money (revenue) talks. Porcupine 52 Posted November 18, 2020 Author #11 Share Posted November 18, 2020 I know NOTHING... NOTHING as Sergeant Schultz would say..... That is the rules they have. Can they change tomorrow... for sure. I also know you have to do an app for your health every day....Like I said... Just follow the rules https://www.alaskaair.com/content/next-level-care/hawaii

Even had a guy show up with a test from the VA last week after being assured by the nurse that did his test that it wouldn't be a problem. Keep checking the list, though, because providers are being added all the time. Pete
Porcupine 52 Posted November 18, 2020 Author #13 Share Posted November 18, 2020 Yes good advice. The other thing that I have been told is the 72 hours start when do the test, not when you get it back. You have a very small window.

Cienfuegos Posted November 23, 2020 #16 Share Posted November 23, 2020 I took a quick look at United Air's website for flights Newark to London. Mid-December. Looks like they have a single 787 Dreamliner on direct, but two code shares. One with Lufthansa (via Frankfurt) and the other with Air Canada (via Toronto). Porcupine 52 Posted November 25, 2020 Author #17 Share Posted November 25, 2020 Thanks so much Pete. Another trip my wife had made for us before she died. If things work out I can get each kid on a trip. Just not going by myself.

I guess the best advise is check the Hawaii website regularly. We don't expect much to open up before next summer, to be safe. Pete
