OzCanuck Posted November 27, 2020 #1 Share Posted November 27, 2020 Didn’t see another thread about it. Tonight on The Nature Of Things on CBC at 9pm EDT is Mike Downie’s documentary about the Diamond Princess. For those of you who know the reference, Mike is Gord’s brother.

Shame, I was very interested in seeing it. 🙁
Rare azbirdmom Posted November 28, 2020 #5 Share Posted November 28, 2020 I just finished Gay Courter's book "Quarantine! How I Survived the Diamond Princess Coronavirus Crisis". Excellent read, especially for those of us who followed along closely at the time here on CC.

Just tell your computer you are in Canada and it works fine. 😁 (The VPN I use isn't free but there are many out there that are free.)

hobbyfarmer2 Posted November 28, 2020 #8 Share Posted November 28, 2020 Watched it this afternoon. Seems the Diamond was under Japanese government control after it docked in Yokohama. My view is that the Japan administration bears a lot of the responsibility for the debacle mitigated somewhat by the general lack of knowledge surrounding the virus at the time. Princess apparently employed their std response to a spread of norovirus but that response was not effective against the coronavirus.
Rare BSR Posted November 29, 2020 #9 Share Posted November 29, 2020 I watched it and thought it was very interesting.

Where we live in the USA, Comcast only has one episode from this season and it is not this one. They have episode 2. Do you know which episode it is? Very interesting, and seemingly quite Canadian in not blaming someone or screaming or whatever. Well presented. 2

westcoaster Posted November 30, 2020 #14 Share Posted November 30, 2020 Interesting documentary, but I thought it was funny that most of the clips supposedly showing life on board the ship weren't on the Diamond Princess or any Princess ship for that matter. Lots of clips showing the Oasis Class RCCL ships, etc.
