I was on a 3 way call with my TA and Carnival and was flat out told that unless the code was in my offer box or my wife's offer box, we could not get it. A week later we got the salt in the open wound with each of us getting the stupid RU9 code in each of our boxes.

drsel Posted January 3, 2021 #330 Share Posted January 3, 2021 We got the best RU1 code, but we are not going to use it. It is 280 dollars more than the cheapest rate for two adults on an 8 night Carnival Legend Cruise. But we don't drink that much and if we have paid for it, we will be tempted to do so.

No excursions, no gambling, no duty free shopping, no Seafood Shack at lunch. And 18 out of 20 Carnival cruises have been in inside cabins, with the other two being a balcony when I cruised with my father and a bowling alley balcony when I redeemed Amex points. It may depend on your bill at the end of the cruise. Is it over $1000?

If you include gratuities for the two of us, it's just over that, but our last 2 cruises on Carnival were both 8 night cruises on the Horizon. But I booked myself into my sister's room, who is a solo traveler, and her RU1 code was applied. It's about $60 more money pp than the cheapest rate, and we lost the $50pp OBC. But $110 for the drink package is worth it for me. I'll probably only have a couple drinks a day but I like to have pop. So my wife is booked into a room with our two kids. Since they're just 2 and 5, they'll be fine on the bench bed together end to end. My parents didn't have any code showing when we were searching for prices for them, I tried both their numbers searching for interior, OV, and balcony, and the option never showed up. But the TA software somehow made RU1 appear, so they got it as well. My key won't open my door but I'll just have to carry around one of my kid's cards, but I usually have them anyway so no big deal. You can go to guest services and get extra cards made. They know families need extra keys for this exact reason, so if it worries you, you aren't being sneaky, just a good parent. firefly333 Posted January 5, 2021 #337 Share Posted January 5, 2021 I do notice that the cheers on us doesnt have price protection. ... though maybe not a consideration if prices keep going up. The more cancellations the more rebooking. More cancellations coming so maybe price protection isnt a worry. I've booked balconies in the past for less than a inside now costs. Carnival has to keep increasing prices. They have gifted so much OBC(more than any other Cruise line, ) that they have to recover it somehow. I wonder if Carnival will allow you to use the $600 gifted OBC (for re-booking) in the casino Edited January 5, 2021 by drsel

Also says cant be used for tips but it always can so far. I want to book the thriller excursion in cozumel but sells out. Cant book until onboard to use obc lol. ...but I got a list to spend on. I was a little concerned about the price protection, but I booked on the Mardi Gras and there were only a few rooms in my category that were left despite the cruise still being 9 months away. I've been watching rooms vanish on that cruise since the first successful vaccine trials were announced, and once they sell out then there is no "price protection" anyway. If rooms drop considerably, I can cancel, lose the half price deposit, and rebook. So I'm not totally out of luck. But overall, the risk was worth the free drinks to me.

It should be used for Cheers, dining, excursions, duty free shopping and gratuities, what OBC is normally used for.

TNcruising02 Posted January 6, 2021 #345 Share Posted January 6, 2021 When cruising begins again, it's possible that Carnival will eliminate the ability to cash out the OBC in the casino.

A lot of casino promotions lately have been OBC and not casino cash or fun play.

I'm just saying with OBC credit that get's used first when you charge to your account. So if I have $200 OBC and charge 200 to my players bank my OBC is now gone. Of course casino players are gonna spend it, not go turn it in for cash.

That's the difference that could get Carnival in trouble. With the plethora of people having 600 in OBC to burn, those savvy enough to just cash it out in the casino defeats the purpose of why it was given out in the first place. All Carnival had to do was require the 600 to be spent on food, drink, spa, excursions, duty free shopping or grats. Or they could have just given out 125% in FCC's like RCI, MSC and Princess did. I read on here all the time people do that or go to cherry on top and buy gift certificates. I never would, I spend it, but some post here they take it in cash all the time. Seems cheap to me, but I like to shop.
