Puerto Madryn - Peninsula Valdes

My wife and I did a South America cruise this Feb on the Celebrity Eclipse and we liked it so much we are going back in 2022 and visiting many of the same ports.

In Feb we did Puerto Madryn on our own,  We got a Taxi to Trewlew to see the Paleontology Museum and then had a fabulous lunch in town, walked along the beach front.

When we return in 2022, wife thinks she wants to go see the living animals on Peninsula Valdes, but I am curious about the tour and the area and wondering if it is worth a full day's time to go there.

Did you go?   Did all day seem too long?    What animals did you see?

We used Edgar as many others here have done.  It was a very long day.  We did the Punta Tombo tour and saw a lot of wildlife.  But the bus ride to get there was pretty unpleasant.  Bumpy unpaved road for many miles.  No restroom facilities along the way.

We did the same. Punta Tombo was awesome. Our trip included a restroom stop at a gas station/convenience store on the way there.

We also did a South America cruise in February 2020.  Absolutely stunning trip.  In Puerto Madryn we went to EL PEDRAL LODGE.  It was a long  two hour (with 90 minute very bumpy ride part)  to the lodge.  We saw lots of wildlife along that bumpy road - ostriches, wild horses, weird cross between a rabbit and a miniature kangaroo.  The lodge dining room was beautiful and the included meal was very good.  The bus ride to the beach was short and the penguins at the shore were amazing.  Thousands of them.  I know it was not what you asked about, but we really liked it.

We also did the ride out to El Pedral and found the bus ride to get there extremely long but we did see wildlife along the way.  The lunch at the ranch was really good and then we were driven part way to the beach to see the penguins.  The walk from where the vehicle left us off was very long and the beach stones were hard to walk on.  But it was worth the walk once we got to where the penguin colonies were.

Just curious how much it cost for the taxi for the day?
