Carnival cancels March

Got the email today. All March out of the US.

Can you divide up OBC for future cruises.

I have way too much to use on one cruise. If not. Guess I will get a gift card with it on the next cruise.

I was feeling okay because I didn’t have a Carnival cruise scheduled in March, then my Princess cruise in May was cancelled.  Twentieth cancellation for us, and each one hurts a bit more than the last.

I just had 3 small cruises on the Ecstasy cancelled for March making my total 14. My first ones cancelled back in April hurt the most, Med/TA on the Legend in Oct 2020. The 10 day Med was out of Venice. 100 sailing days cancelled. 4 of the cruises were on the Mardi Gras.  Other than another on the MG for April 24 which may or may not sail, I was already booked before the virus for a Med/TA on the Legend again in Oct 2021 so if that ship doesnt go to Europe I dont have another cruise until 2022.

We keep trying.  Found some good offers and did some great price-protected Lifts and Shifts on Royal, so we have nine booked.  I keep reading over the list, thinking about how great it will be to cruise that often, but I am having a difficult time convincing myself.

This is my fourth cancellation and this time, I'm taking the cash and giving up $900 OBC. I will just rebook in the future if there is one.

My 10 day, July 5th 2021 Alaska cruise out of San Francisco was just cancelled.  I chose the full deposit refund.  Happy to cut all financial strings with Carnival.

The cancellations will continue after March 31st. Until the cruise ports in the Caribbean and other locations open for tourism, there is no where to go. A cruise to no where with a mask does not have much appeal. I am on the waiting list (#1 I was told) for a May 1st cruise to the ABC islands. The ABC ports will not be open for this cruise. I do not think I am going out on a limb predicting the ports will be closed. I have $600 in obc to spend, I think we are looking at next fall or 2022. Early fall is possible, but hurricane season has been to active for me to book. I think it will be another long year and Carnival may have to reduce the fleet some more to lower cost. I hope my thoughts turn out totally incorrect, but it is not looking good.

I rebooked this time primarily because I used two Amex offers and would have lost $200 in statement credits in addition to giving up a good price on the cruise.  But I am getting closer and closer to doing what you did and taking refunds.  My next booked Carnival cruise is in September, because I had one cancelled every month from September through February and I just gave up at that point.

Its a wise move. I don't see cruising in 2021 and if it ever happened, how fun would it be. Masks everywhere, including laying out like Vegas this summer. etc, etc.

Cruising is occurring as you type.

 

I see Royal is still selling March sailings from the US which almost certainly won't occur. Now that doesn't seem to be honest.

I also have had cruises cancelled in 2020.. My next one is in April on Panorama , though most likely it’ll be cancelled.

 

 Maybe I’m the oddball here, but since I book a year or two out anyway .... I have no problem rebooking another cruise in 2022 & 2023. All are paid for, with OBC extra $$ too!  My Radiance in December is far enough down the road .... maybe we will be on her??   IDK.
 

Whenever it’s the right time, I’m looking forward to cruising again ... 🙂🙂

I had one cancelled on the Horizon last month. I cancelled in June before they cancelled and just got my deposit back.

 

Not rebooking anything at this time.

Exactly. I have cruises booked out to 2023 and tend to book cruises of interest to me when they are released and typically lower prices. The pandemic really hasn't impacted my method, but a bonus is now a number of cruises have $600 OBC and discounted cruise cash. A win-win-win.

We used our AMEX card to get the $100 statement credit for our MG cruise.  When it was cancelled, we chose to just take the refund and not rebook.  Within a couple of days, we had our deposit credited back to our AMEX card.  It was posted as $698 credit from Carnival Reservations.  ($198 deposit + $500 payment)  I looked at the statement and nowhere did it mention the $100 statement credit that we had gotten when we paid the $698.  Maybe it will show up next month but it wasn't on this statement.

Other people have reported the same, and some have reported the credit being charged back to the card.  I have lost the credit on two different occasions in the past.  This particular cruise was a casino offer; I used to spend a lot of time in the casino with my late SO, but rarely go there now.  I haven’t been on Princess since he died, so this will probably be my last casino offer with them.  $1,058 total for two people for a 7-night cruise, with $100 OBC and $400 to spend in the casino, so that $200 from Amex would have been 36% of the net cost of that cruise.  If the cruise had been $3,000, the $200 would have been easier to walk away from.  The mathematical part of me won out over the emotional part, which is just plain tired of the whole cancel/rebook/cancel mess.

If you want to cruise out of some other country perhaps, if you're American, they probably don't want you there.

Was hopeful the first 6 months or so, but am beginning to wonder if there is a cruising future as well...not to mention what it will look like if it does indeed return. 

 

With the 'stay scared' factor so high, I believe the cruise lines feel any effort they put in attempting to appease the CDC is wasted effort.  

 

I remain somewhat optimistic for 'enjoyable' cruising to return, but starting to think even that is unrealistic.

Nobody wears a mask here in Florida when tanning outside in the sun. Oh, and social distancing isn’t a thing here either.

Florida seems a lot  like Alabama. Wearing a mask is not enforced. Most people comply. However, the cruise companies will have to strictly enforce the mask requirements when cruising returns. Lack of enforcement would devastate the industry. One ship with an outbreak could shut down the industry. As I mentioned earlier, until cruise ports open to tourism with  less stringent restrictions, the cruise industry cannot comply with the many test requirements of various countries. The pandemic will have to subside greatly  for cruising to return. At this moment, it is surging again. The vaccine distribution worldwide will take six months or longer to have a significant effect. I want to cruise, but I want to cruise safely. I hope everyone stays well.

Nothing has changed and you are correct. I still do not want to take a cruise to no where with a mask.

Local news the other day confirms what I have been saying all along about this darn covid 19. It is NOT the major killer in the US. In order. #1 Heart disease, #2 cancer and 3rd covid19. So how about we all relax and just be cautious. BTW Wearing a mask while tanning, why not? A 24/7 mask. . Get a great tan and people will think you have on a funny mask.

I don't have any reliable source to say what ports are open or not. Nothing I could find was current. But I did see an October 1st article in the Yucatan Times that Mexico was ready to welcome cruise ships in starting in November.

 

That obviously didn't happen, at least for U.S. based ships, but I would guess Mexico will still welcome ships whenever they are allowed to start cruising again. And probably a few other Caribbean ports as well, though certainly not all of them.

 

I see the biggest hurdle being getting US clearance. If those cruises to Mexico or wherever go off without a problem once permitted, I think other ports will soon allow them as well. Though some may decide they don't need the ships, like Key West did.
