Refunds & FCC woes

With three consecutive cruises cancelled since April 2020 I had received various refunds and FCC.

But since each cruise was cancelled I immediately booked another with the existing FCC then .

As a result I cannot keep track of what the amount of refund or FCC I should receive after the third cruise cancellation. I just have to rely on what HAL did is correct.

Oh well I imagine HAL would not short change me.

Best laugh I have had all day!

I am fairly certain I got short changed on my similar situation, but trying to prove it is very difficult.

Do you not have credit card records for the first cruise? Emails from subsequent bookings? Working with a TA? I would not depend on any company to keep track of what they owe me!

I have tried to keep track of them.

But HAL's email and web-site constantly changed the amount of FCC for no reason and both my agent and I got tired of trying to correct them , especially part of the amount are extra awarded to us. Even now the amount of available FCC on 'my account' is not correct. We just want to get to the end and use them all up and be done with them.

Hopefully there will not be a next time. Our next cruise is April, 2022 and that should be a go.

We have now canceled at least 4 cruises, and more flights than I have fingers. Several tens of thousands of dollars over the last 10 or so months. We have, at this point, lost $200 in all of this. For redepositing miles for a roundtrip Europe award flights. For one of the canceled cruises.

I've had three HAL cancellations - Zaandam last April, NA B2B (think I should've just gotten off this weekend).

I have my original confirmations, so I know what my base fare was and know what the 25% "bonus" should be.  I know what the OBC from the original Zaandam sailing was (also have that original email from the cancellation).  Because I kept those confirmations, I knew just how much the taxes/fees to be refunded should be, and they were exactly that.

I keep it all in a spreadsheet.  I haven't had any issues with HAL getting the amounts wrong or changing them.  And unlike some lines (Carnival specifically), HAL allowed me to stack my 3 FCCs and apply to December 2021 NA.  My 3 cancelled sailings were all very low casino fares, so those FCCs didn't go too far toward a 12-night rebooking with all the perks included, but I'm happy that I could apply all the FCCs.

I've had 7 cancellations (Carnival and HAL), cancelled an NCL TA myself, and did a Lift & Shift on X.  I'm expecting my B2B MSC cruises for late April to be cancelled at any time (although not before final payment is due this weekend).

I'm an accountant.  I can't function without spreadsheets and, still, I'm a little confused about what I have outstanding on Carnival.  I've rebooked everything (8 sailings + the L&S) but have some FCC/OBC on Carnival that I just haven't applied to anything, yet.

Like @NCTribeFani used a spreadsheet when the March 2020 cruise was cancelled.  I did take a FCC but after more cancellations requested full refunds.  It took awhile and refunds didn’t always match payments given we got it all back.  I’m now in the process of reducing FCD’s to further limit my exposure should things get worse.

I have 6 American Airlines evouchers. One British Airways refund.  Have waited for 5 refunds and one FCC over the past year. I swear, I could use a bookkeeper.  Thankfully all are accounted for except for one HAL refund.

I agree with @NCTribeFanand @Crazy For Cats, and use a spreadsheet for everything. I'm a retired accountant and travel a lot [pre-Covid]. I log all the payments, reservations, flights, confirmation numbers on a spreadsheet, and verify that all of the refunds/FCCs are received when due. Saves a lot of headaches.

Same here. Spreadsheet, colorcoded all the received FCC and OBC when applied to next (cancelled) cruise . Easy to follow , haven’t been shortchanged at all.

I am happy to report the accounting has settled on my accounts, I have double my original deposit and my OBC has been restored.  It is all showing in my account properly.   I only had a single deposit outstanding

We're still waiting for our refund for our cancelled April cruise  --- started with FCC's which were credited but decided we wanted a refund...emailed HAL in August - told it could take 60-90 days.. fast forward to the 1st week in December, called HAL & were told the original person hadn't processed our request properly & this rep would correct it but it would be up to 'somebody' to approve it....

I have happy news to report.  My wife and I were on a Feb. 29, 2020 cruise of the Westerdam that was cancelled by HAL.  We were offered BOTH a full refund and a FCC.  The FCC had a use by date of Feb. 18, 2021.  The HAL website says that such dates have been extended until Dec. 31, 2021.

We did not know if the extension applied to us since our FCC is in addition to a full cash refund.  But HAL customer service just confirmed that it does!
