I would respectfully suggest that a cruise can never do Australia justice unless combined with land tours. Thanks Eric. Paulines cousin wants us to stay for a week in Adelaide at their home so they could show us Adelaide. We planned on staying several nights in Sydney too. I don't mind continuing the 'Round the World. if no one else wants to take it on. My suggestion for tomorrow is the Cairns, Yorkey's Knob, Port Douglas area which are all cruise ship calls and quite close together....what do you think? We visited Brisbane in 2011, not long after the dreadful floods that did tremendous damage to the area. We were very impressed with the speed of the recovery in the city. We caught the river cat from the dock to the city centre and then got the bus to the Lone Pine wild Life Refuge so again, we didn't see much of the city itself... Thank you for taking on the rest of the cruise Isabel, your photos are always a delight. I can now carry on with my world cruise and keep dreaming. They are all within 40 miles of each other. I hope lots of you come along for the ride😄😄
Aulanis Posted April 5, 2021 #906 Share Posted April 5, 2021 Thankyou Captain Gettingwarmer for steering us this far, hopefully you have been promoted to Commodore, as happened to one of our other captains while out these parts. Thanks Captain Izzy for taking over at short notice I thought there would have been more joining us but maybe covid distancing on board has prevented it. We had two days stay after our cruise, Loved Brisbane and were to visit again last year 😞 . I have far too many pics. Will do some of the city centre and see if I have time later for some of the park and river taxi ride. Note this Clock Tower Note this Church This is the church from the clock tower Looked like a toy or gingerbread model.

Aulanis Posted April 5, 2021 #910 Share Posted April 5, 2021 No-one else? well here is the park first pic our hotel is behind the trees in the first pic from there we can walk to the city centre. We had a ride on the "toy"train as well it does a circuit takes about 20 mins. Token charge. The waterfall is more impressive than it looks. The top line reads something like the windmillis the oldest surviving structure in Queensland. First working in 1828.

Izzywiz Posted April 6, 2021 #915 Share Posted April 6, 2021 Good morning cruisers, Queensland today and then heading north. I hope you don't mind but I'm going to open up the areas a little more because there are often ports close together which offer wonderful photo opportunities. Bearing that in mind, tomorrow we are visiting Komodo Island and Bali. Please feel free to add pictures from Papua New Guinea and Indonesia as well. Here are my Queensland pictures. We visited Port Douglas in 2011 and did a boat trip out to the great barrier Reef in cold and rainy weather. Fortunately, the sun came out as we reached the island but it was still too cold to swim... We visited again in 2019 on part of our pre-cruise stay in Cairns and this time the weather was hot and wet...
Izzywiz Posted April 6, 2021 #916 Share Posted April 6, 2021 In 2019 we stayed in an apartment for a week just outside Cairns which we used as a base to visit several places. The beaches were beautiful but swimming was restricted to caged areas because of the danger from sharks and crocs!! We did the Kuranda heritage train ride up into the hills.... and a boat trip to Green Island to see a bit more of the Great Barrier Reef..
Izzywiz Posted April 6, 2021 #917 Share Posted April 6, 2021 We drove up to the Daintree River.... and stopped at the Mossman Gorge on the way back... We spent a lot of time at the Cairns Botanical Gardens...
Izzywiz Posted April 6, 2021 #918 Share Posted April 6, 2021 Cairns port is used by the smaller cruise ships so the larger ones anchor off shore at either Port Douglas or Yorkey's Knob and tender passengers in. There isn't a lot to see at Yorkey's Knob but it is quite close to Cairns... We didn't spend much time in Cairns itself although it is a nice , clean small city..

Izzywiz Posted April 7, 2021 #921 Share Posted April 7, 2021 It's cold and frosty here this morning so it was lovely to see the pictures of hot and steamy Darwin. Today we are visiting Komodo Island and Bali plus anywhere on the way north from Australia to Bali. Tomorrow we dock in Hong Kong and the surrounding areas. The Komodo Dragons were BIG!!!!
Izzywiz Posted April 7, 2021 #922 Share Posted April 7, 2021 Bali was one of the first 'exotic' places that we visited in the 1990s when we did a hotel stay for a week. We have been back twice on cruises, the last time was in January 2020 and we were amazed at how very touristy the coastal areas near the port have become. Thankfully, once away from the coast, the pace of life was much slower and the countryside remains much as we remembered.
